900.0. "Cat from Torrance, California" by PBA::DALEY () Tue Nov 17 1987 12:25

    Do any of the noters come from the Torrance, California area.

    Reason being - the Framingham (Mass.) Humane Society has a cat with tags
    from Torrance; the name of the cat as well as the last name of the
    owners; and a telephone number. However, when the number was called
    a different family answered and they didn't know the previous user
    of that phone number.

    I have no idea of how large Torrance is, and I know this is such
    a L-O-N-G shot, but maybe someone who has just come east from
    Torrance has mentioned to their former neighbors to keep an eye
    open for their cat as sometimes they re-appear after a long trek
    home. And maybe there has been some notice posted with the local
    humane society in Torrance.

    I thought of trying the reverse phone book later this afternoon.
    maybe that will work.

    Again, this is just a chance and probably nothing will come of it.
    But it's worth a try.

900.1Could phone co. in CA help?SQM::MURPHYIs it Friday yet?Tue Nov 17 1987 12:365
    What about calling the Torrance, CA phone company to see if the
    people who moved gave a new # to reach them at?

    Just a thought!

900.2Another thoughtSQM::MURPHYIs it Friday yet?Tue Nov 17 1987 12:385

    Possibly even the Torrance Post Office could give a forwarding address
    to write to?

    Try an old Torrance phone book. Find out the old address from that.
    Then ask some of the old neighbors in the old Torrance neighborhood.
    They'd probably know at least where the people moved to. If no
    neighbor can be located, you at least know how the cat owners might
    be listed locally.

    Another thought could be that these people lost their kitty on
    vacation or while they were moveing to Maine or something, so they
    might not be local to Framingham.

900.4I'd try Framingham Directory assistance VAXWRK::SKALTSISDebTue Nov 17 1987 14:535
    How about calling directory assistance for Framingham (& vicinity)
    for a famiely with the last name listed on the tags? it might be
    helpfull to ask them to check new listings.

900.5Owner Found WBA::DALEYTue Nov 17 1987 15:3614
Goods news - I just called with the lady from the Humane Society
    and she said she had the owner of Brutus in her livingroom right
    at that moment. He had responded to an article in last night's Middlesex
    News, and when I asked if she were quite certain he was the owner
    she replied "Yes". She said she would call me back this afternoon
    to give me the details of the story of this particular cat, as well
    as how she was sure of his ownership. I'll pass on the story through
    the notes. Also, she asked that I extend her thanks to you all for
    your interest.

    So it looks as if we have a happy ending here.
