Although I am unable to even foster a furry child right now, I
would be willing to contribute to a food subsidy for foster parents
    attempting to permananetly place them.

As a recent 'new mother' of one of Marilyn's orphans, this strikes
very close to home. The 'resignation' of a woman of great compassion
and dedication is horrible to contemplate.

    Kim,

I too would be glad to contribute toward to a food subsidy for foster
parents until they placed these homeless animals. If only I lived
in my own home and not an apt.....

It makes me glad I'm not a resident of Pelham if that's the kind
of people they have in charge of their town. Can't the Pelham
residents do anything to help Marilyn or don't they want to?

How about sending this info. to an animal protection organization
    or some television stations?

Did you also put this plea on Canine and yes, even Equitation Note
    Files? You should.

    Kim,

What about writing letters on this whole mess? Maybe if enough
publicity were given to what's happening, it would stop? I'd
be willing to write, and also to provide food.

898.6lets *DO* something!BUSY::MAXMIS11Mon Nov 16 1987 19:3423
I can see why the resedents of Pelham would be sort of skiddish
about getting involved. A few years ago I was at odds with one
of our town's cops. I was ripping mad about the way a situation
was handled, but what it boils down to is that if I had the guy
brought up on charges I could be in trouble the next time I needed
protection. You know, like if I acalled 911 and said there was
an ax murderer in my kitchen and then they would put me on hold
or something. Perhaps it would be best if they got letters from
all over the state and country (all us YOGI::FELINE noters) saying
that the animal lovers of the world are watching and we don't like
one little bit what's going on. We could even suggest that the
national press could get involved. That'd get them buzzing!

I would also be very interested in any monitary support I could
lend to the situation. The tail count around my house is a bit too
high for me to take any of the sweet furrys, but perhaps we can
keep them from harming the animals and provide food for them until
a more reasonable solution can be found. Perhaps we all could
contribute to a fund that would get big enough so that we could
convince a "no kill" shelter to take all the cats and dogs and they
could take the money as a contribution. Whaddya think?

898.7What hope is there for future strays, etc.?SQM::MURPHYIs it Friday yet?Mon Nov 16 1987 19:4310
That would be great if a "no kill" shelter could take the dogs &
cats from the Pelham Shelter. I'm also concerned about what's to
happen to animals brought in to the shelter after the present animals
are rescued? It sounds like the "officers" left in charge with
Marilyn out of the picture really don't care about the welfare of
the animals turned in or picked up. Sounds like they need a good
    housecleaning in that dept. too.

If any of you do decide to write or call or whatever,
make sure that there is NO mention of Digital, Notes, or
anything that would implicate Digital in any way. You're all
just friends that like animals (which is the truth!).

BTW - The situation with the town "fathers" is
absolutely ridiculous if it is as described! I'm with you in
        spirit.

898.11Other Sources for Advice?PROSE::FISCHERTue Nov 17 1987 12:0811
    Kim,

I've entered a brief note in CANINE, pointing readers to this note.

It sounds like Pelham officials aren't even going to give us the
opportunity to help out as temporary foster parents.

Could the MSPCA help us out? Wasn't this the way the Bosler Humane
Society got started? Perhaps they would have some advice.

    Cindy
898.12Who can we call/write?GRECO::MORGANDoris Morgan DTN 223-9594Tue Nov 17 1987 13:566
Please give us some names, addresses, and phone numbers to write
and call in our protests and concerns. I agree that we should try
to get the MSPCA and any Mass. Humane Societies involved. How about
calling the Boston Globe and see if someone there will do a story?
A little embarrassment for the town fathers might help them reconsider
    their abhorrent course of action.

I just made a call to the Pelham Police Department to find
out how I could go about adopting a pet from the shelter. I
was told that no pets could be adopted for a couple of weeks
because there would be no dog officer until then. We, however
have heard through other sources that a new dog officer will be
    starting THIS Thursday. More games.
898.16BUSY::MAXMIS11Tue Nov 17 1987 16:539
    Kim,

If there is no dog officer, is anybody feeding the animals? Normally
I would not even ask this question, but considering the odor that
this situation has taken on, I'm not sure the question is out of
    place.

    Hi Kim,
Thanks (from all of us I'm sure) for all the effort you are
putting into this!! When you are at the point where you need the
assistance, let me know and I'll help however I can. At the very
least monetarily, but I'm fairly certain I will be able to volunteer
transportation (and the use of a couple of cat carriers) to transport
out friends where ever it is they need to go!!

Like Tom, I will offer cat carriers too -- I really hope the blue eyed
mommy is ok and all the other animals -- Kim is trying to get the mommy
for us, of the new kittens we recently got from Pelham, along with the others,
so lets all hope and pray everything goes well.

All efforts are greatly appreciated Kim.

Keep in touch.

Kim, I read the message in CANINE and immediately went to note 898 like
requested. This is TERRIBLE! How can people be so cruel? Did you find out
if someone was feeding these babies? What is this world coming too?!! It
makes me SO MAD when non-loving people try to interfere in a situation like
this. This place sounds like those itsy bitsy towns in movies where if you go
over 15 miles an hour, they put you in jail and sentence you to life!!

Why can't these people just butt out?! I am all for broadcasting this. It
may be the only thing that works.

Please let me know if you get these animals out. I will pray extra long
tonight.

Is there anyway to SNEAK them out?

I don't live in N.H. but it's easy enough to get to. If there is
a need I would certainly take care of a pet or two until they could
    be adopted.

Congratulations on becoming so involved. This file has really helped
to renew my faith in the human race (most of them anyway).

898.25TEMPORARY SAFE-HOMEAIMHI::OFFENMon Nov 23 1987 21:2120
I have already tried to enter this once before and it didn't take.
Let's hope it takes this time.

I am able to take two FLUFFY kittens on strictly a TEMPORARY basis.
I already have two very possessive cats and a HUGE dog so I can't
have any more. The cats are strictly indoor cats. They are spayed
and declawed. I do need to know if my cats are in danger of
contracting something from these babies. My cats have already had
all their shots so they are healthy. The babies will be well loved
between my daughter and myself but this MUST be a temporary basis.
I know once I have them in the house, it will be SO HARD to let
them go, but I have to.

I live in Allenstown (Suncook) and work at Digital in Merrimack.
My DTN is 264-4040 and my node is AIMHI::OFFEN.

Please let me know if I can be assistance.

This is a replacement to 898.25.

I noticed that you have 2 white males and 1 white female. Are they
still available? If so, I am VERY interested in them. I already
have a white dog and a white cat and one of these would fit right
in. The female sounds beautiful with her blue eyes.

We are currently looking for one male kitty (maybe two if they are
siblings). We also live near Pelham N.H. and are outraged at what
    is going on over there!
Please let me know if we can rescue any of them. We also have four
pet carriers that we could help out with.
Thank you for your wonderful effort Kim!

Ooops sorry sorry sorry..... reply .28 for some reason
did not flash by me or didn't register either one :^). But note
.29 did and I can't make my fingers fly any faster..... (snicker)

Everything worked out fine. Every animal that was there
found a home with mostly fellow noters :^). I delivered the last
two kittens personally to two noters in this file. (shame on me
I can't remember their names but it has been a while!!) So yes it
all worked out and it is one of the best examples in here to show
what this community plus the canine community can do for our fellow
animals. It truely was and is amazing and I will always remember
this as one of the highlights of my entire life.

Ah so your prayers were answered for a happy ending!!!
Glad I could supply the info :^).
