662.0. "Advice re: 2 male cats" by DELNI::HYER () Tue Jul 14 1987 15:38

    We have just adopted two male Coon kittens. One is 10 weeks, one
    is 12 weeks. In 48 hours they have come to some understanding about
    getting along, hopefully it will continue.

    I am concerned about having two males. Have I bitten off more than
    I can chew?? That is will they get along as adults?? Both will
    be neutered at the first possible moment. I am particularly worried
    about them being territorial. I have only had female cats in the
    past and then only one at a time. I got two so they would have
    company but right now we are keeping them separate during the day
    as a precautionary measure.

    My husband has great faith but I am just a nervous kitty mother
    I guess!!!

    Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

    As long as you have then neutered early, you shouldn't have any
    problem. Especially since they will be growing up together.

662.2They'll be friends for life!CLUSTA::TAMIRTue Jul 14 1987 18:1211
    Hi Celeste,

    My experience has shown that once they come to terms with each other,
    they'll be friends for life. I agree on the neutering, though.
    As long as they don't have anything (or anyone!) to fight over,
    you'll soon find them all curled up together, washing each others
    faces...just like my two boys.

    I'm glad you found another one!

662.3don't worry...TOPDOC::NAJJARWed Jul 15 1987 17:583
    I agree with the others. I had two male cats that grew up
    together as kittens (from 8 wks old) we had them both neutered
    at 7 months, and they were the best of friends!
662.4Three male coons who love each otherFSPROD::CGILMOREFri Jul 17 1987 15:3515
    We now have 12 cats (counting the new little babies!),
    9 of which are males
    6 of the males are maine coons

    three of the male coons grew up together (the other three
    are babies) and for the first year were not neutered.
    They all got along like one big happy family, there has
    never been a problem with them not getting along (or with
    the non-coons, either).

    I don't think you'll have any problem, neutered or not.
    But if you're not going to breed them, I'd definately get
    them neutered, it not only made them more loveable, but
    they stopped 'running away from home' at night.

    I agree with the others. The two times that I have had males together
    from an early age, they have become best of friends.
