627.1Which day is which?VAXWRK::SKALTSISDebWed Jun 17 1987 20:295
    I the past when I've gone to this show, one day was for shorthairs
    and the other for long. Do you know which day is which?

627.2Longhair & Shorthairs - Both DaysTOPDOC::TRACHMANThu Jun 18 1987 13:587
    Hi Deb,

    Yes, longhairs and shorthairs will be shown on both days. One year
    this club did a specialty show separating the hairs - this year
    they are mixing the hairs each day. Hope this helps.

627.3rendezvous, s'il vous plait?GLINKA::GREENEThu Jun 18 1987 15:2711
    How about another try at getting together?

    I *am* going to go (too close to pass up!), but not sure just
    when. Probably Saturday mid afternoon or Sunday afternoon.

    Anyone showing cats? Then we can look for you.

    I've met a few noters at previous shows, but there are many more
    to meet...

    Yes, I'm showing two - Yurii & Lara - the numbers on the cage will
    be 402 (Lara) and 451 (Yurii). I'll be there both days. Cage drapes
    are hot pink! Hope to see you there.

627.5Some basic questions?TOKLAS::FELDMANPDS, our next successThu Jun 18 1987 20:2421
    Could someone explain some of the mechanics of a cat show? I
    understand the basic parts of the evaluation -- looking at the body
    shape, head shape, coat color, etc. It's all the mundane aspects
    I find confusing.

    How many times does a given judge see a given cat? Does a cat
    initially compete in just one category, until they narrow it down
    to Best of Show? Or can a cat be competing in more than one category
    simulataneously? Does a given just look try to look at all of the
    cats in one category simultaneously? or do they divide them into
    batches, and then bring back the best of the batch to make the final
    decisions?

    Most importantly, what do all those strange numbers that the judges
    put on the cages mean? The one time I went to a cat show, I'm sure
    I saw the same numbers being put on more than one cage, which made
    little sense to me, and I was totally unable to make any connection
    between those numbers and the announced rankings of the cats by
    the judge.
