622.0. "Anyone useing a Mr. Spats' Cat-A-Comb (tm) ?" by VAXWRK::SKALTSIS (Deb) Mon Jun 15 1987 19:32

Sunday's paper has an ad for a Mr. Spats' Amazing New Cat.a.comb
(tm). It claims to help rid cat hair from your home. It fits on
an outside corner wall (it is attached there with velcro), and has 306
specially designed plastic teeth that actually "grab" hair as the cat
rubs against it. The cat is supposed to be attracted to it because it
    contains a catnip filled reservoir.

I'm thinking of buying one or two of these, and was wondering if
any reader of this file have one, and weather or not kitty will
    use this.

    Deb,

I don't have any of these devices, and hadn't even heard of them.
I'ld be real interested to find out the results.

actually, one of my reasons for asking is because I've seen grooming
gloves with lilltle rubber teeth, and short-haired cats do like
them. However, with Alex and Pip (whose furlength is described as
ultra-long by her groomer) I was wondering if it would work.

622.3will this really work?TOOK::GEISERTue Jun 16 1987 18:3910

I saw the ad for this wonderful item as well, and wanted to run right
out and get a few. However when I thought about it some more, my cats
do rub up against the corners of the walls a lot, but only their faces,
and that's not the part that sheds most. So, do you think this would
still work? I think it sounds like a great ides, but I'm a bit
skeptical.

I ordered one several weeks ago, and it finally arrived a few days ago.
My short-haired cat, Chayna, loved to rub against it even before I put
it on the wall (I tried using it in a comb-like fashion to see how
she'd take it). After I put it up, however, she rubbed against it a
little, but didn't seem especially enthusiastic. I haven't noticed her
using it all that much when I'm around, but it's not in a place that I
can see from the living room, where I spend most of my time. I'll have
to check to see how much hair is caught in the teeth to get an idea of
    how much she's using it...

My other cat, Jasper (a Persian), didn't seem all that interested in
it. Maybe it reminds him too much of being combed, which he hates!

P.S. Mine came with only two Velcro stickers (it's supposed to have
four) and so is stuck on the wall rather precariously. Anyone got any
    extra Velcro? :-)

You can get velcro in sewing shops.

We bought one of these for our boys a month ago. I put
it upstairs on a corner that is on the way to our/their
waterbed. As I was putting it up, the boys were going
bonkers! They had never had catnip before, so I didn't
know what to expect. I left them up there and went
downstairs. Five minutes later, here comes Chip with
the THING IN HIS MOUTH!!!!! He proceeded to rub/roll
all over it on the rug with Dale rolling right along
with him. What a riot!!! They never cease to amaze
my husband and I with their antics, and I hope they
    never stop!!!

I recently bought one of these but mine is called a Korner-Komber.
(what is this fascination with using K's instead of C's?).

Kalliste loves it! Spends most of his time rubbing against it and
chasing everyone one else away. Joui very demurely rubs her face
against it but hasn't gotten the hang of rubbing her whole body
    on it yet.
