537.0. ""My parents the midwives"" by GLINKA::GREENE () Tue Mar 31 1987 10:46

My parents recently retired and I have suggested that they have
a warm fuzzy that doesn't require twice-daily walking: one or
two cats (they always had a cat or a dog or both while we were
growing up, but the last dog died about 10 years ago). When they
come to visit me, one of my cats *always* jumps right onto my
father's lap, he says "harumph" and then they BOTH fall asleep
with my father's hand in the middle of petting the cat. We even
have photos of the grin on his face as he "cat-naps" but he would
    never admit he loves it!

They live in a community that recently decided to allow cats (not
dogs), and all of a sudden there are several who show up on their
doorstep, and *of course* they are given just a little milk or
    something else...but NEVER allowed inside.

Last week, a beautiful Siamese (they have mentioned the cat before
as they could not understand why someone would let such a cat be
outside all the time) DARTED inside past them when they opened the
door, and immediately began to act very strangely.

Within less than an hour, my parents had one Siamese and two teeny
tiny kittens in their living room! In the interim, after calling
the vet to describe the situation, they frantically made a box
with some towels, and my father jumped on his bike and made a
mad dash to the store for some cat food and kitty litter.

They have found friends elsewhere who will be taking the cats!

[By the way, I will be away for the rest of the week, taking a
little birthday-vacation in NY and bringing pregnant Nutmeg home
with me. Tag-Along is not yet definitely pregnant, so she gets
to spend more time and will return later.]
