473.0. "HELP! MOTEL IN SANTA BARBARA NEEDED" by PUZZLE::CORDESJA () Wed Feb 11 1987 21:01

I am writing this topic to see if anyone can help myself and two
friends find a place to stay in Santa Barbara California for a cat
show this weekend. Last weekend we were crazy enough to drive all
night on saturday arriving in Anaheim at 6:30 am and then drive
back that night arriving home at 2:00am. NEVER AGAIN we had said.
Now it looks like that might be our only alternative.

We are not particular. We will take anything with a bathroom at
this point. Seems like everything is booked up because of the three
day weekend. Maybe some of you deccies down south can give us some
ideas on where we can stay.

I used to live in Santa Barbara, and my very best friend is now
there. I will phone her tonight to see if she could put you up.
Ordinarily, I would have said there was a great chance (she is
owned by 2 cats), but she *just* moved and is now living in
a house owned by her roommate (about whom I know very little).

If the answer is yes, I will let you know in FELINE *and* by direct
mail. I won't necessarily contact you otherwise, because I might
be still trying to reach her (she isn't always easy to reach).

And I do believe they have a bathroom or two!

    Hi Jo,

If you can, you might consider staying outside of Santa Barbara.
I go there for business several times a year and it's fairly expensive
($100+ for a single room in most places I've stayed). AND, the
rooms, even at the Sheraton, haven't been all that nice and we're
talking just the basics, like working bathrooms! I did stay nce
at the Hilton in Ventura (about 1/2 hour from SB) and it was a very
nice place and about $75/night for a single. This was back in
November, so I"m not sure if their prices have gone up. It's worth
    a call.

    Goo luck,

    Lynne
473.3've tried every motel known to manPUZZLE::CORDESJAThu Feb 12 1987 16:3814
I spent last night on the phone with the 800 numbers operator.
I tried every motel and hotel chain I could think of and found no
rooms from Santa Maria to Los Angeles. They all said to just go
on down and then call them after 4:00 on Saturday to see if there
were any cancelations. I didn't realize that Santa Barbara is a
sucha popular hot spot for Valentine's Day weekend. They tell me
they have been booked up for months.

I appreciate all the help. Penelope - please be sure to tell your
friend that we are three adults and five cats. She should know
what she is getting into. One of us and two of the cats can stay
in the van overnight, but there is not enough room for all of us
    in there.

Being the clever statistician that I am (when I am not disguised
as a Cat Lady), I figure that

there seem to be about a zillion of you!

Never mind -- I'll still call my friend. Please send me a
DTN, DEC external, and home phone number in case there is any
    last minute info.

(She knows lots of students: might you be able to contribute a
little $ as an incentive if she can't get permission and we can
find some other place to crash?)

    Jo,

Do you or any of you group belong to AAA? Save youself a big phone
bill and let them make your reservations. Their travel agency is
free, and I think they would be able to get in touch with more places
than you since you are restricting yourself to the 800 numbers.

Good luck & have gobs of fun!
473.6PUZZLE::CORDESJAThu Feb 12 1987 17:512
That is a great idea. I will check with my friends to see who has
AAA. We are all asking each other "who' idea was this anyway?????"

It's the little old note maker, me! Marion Daly at the Stow, MA
plant. No, my name really isn't EPETERSON. Eric Peterson had my
job some years back and they never changed the login.

I am very happy to announce that accomodations have been found in
Santa Barbara thanks to the diligent efforts of Penelope Greene.
How she found a room in California from Massachusettes is beyond
me. (must've been some connections). I thank you Penelope, my
friends thank you and our cats thank you (have you ever spent 41
hours caged, half of the time inside a car with no litter box? Believe
me, they are *very* grateful!!) :^)

Just tell them that I SWORE that you were very concerned about
keeping cat owners' reputations pure (you know, thrifty, honest,
    courteous...and CLEAN).

And yes, actually, I *have* spent 41 hours inside a car with
no litter box (but also not in a cage.)!

Since the owner of the motel has never allowed pets before, you
can be sure that I will take extra special care of her motel room.
That way she won't be hesitant about letting other pet owners stay
at her motel. THat will help *all* of us.

Well, what can I say except that the room was great and the price
was great and the show was great and this notesfile is great. Thanks
    to all who helped out.
