448.0. "Cat Beds??" by CLUSTA::TAMIR () Tue Jan 13 1987 14:31

    Hi Jo,

    What's this "cat bed" stuff I've seen here?? You sell (make?) beds
    that perhaps my boys would enjoy (almost) as much as Mommy's??
    Details!! Give us the details!! I'm sure interested!

448.1I have to support my heavy show habit!PUZZLE::CORDESJATue Jan 13 1987 15:5716
    Mary,
    Now that you mention it... yes I make cat beds and sell them. I
    wasn't happy with the type that are usually sold at cat shows, you
    know, the fake fur ones. My cats wouldn't sleep in them and I wanted
    something a little more pleasant looking. I came up with a design
    and started sewing. My beds are not that different except that
    they are made out of 100% cotton fabric, they are quilted on the
    bottom and have nice puffy padded sides. My cats love them! I
    think the cotton fabric is better because it stays cool in the summer
    and also is warm enough in the winter. The fur kind gets too warm.
    I choose fabrics that appeal to me. Most of them are country type
    prints, calicos, and anything with kittens or cats on them. Right
    now I have about 25 beds available in various colors and patterns.
    They are $15.00 each. I can send pictures and more info if anyone
    is interested.

    I forgot to mention that these beds are machine washable in cool
    water on gentle cycle and can be tumbled dry on low.

    Dave, I am not sure of the cost for postage and handling but since
    most companies base shipping charges on weight, it shouldn't be
    too much. I will look into it and let you know.

448.5size of cat beds?BOEHM::SMARTINThu Jan 15 1987 17:435
    How about size? would a 15 pound maine coon fit?
    Mine seem to prefer the bathroom sink. Not very soft, but
    about the right shape. If they get any bigger though - they'll
    get stuck!

448.6PUZZLE::CORDESJAThu Jan 15 1987 19:156
    A 15 lb maine coon should fit in these beds. I have to mixed breed
    coons, one about 13 lbs and the other over 15 lbs and both use the
    beds. Sometimes at shows they will pile on top of one another in
    one bed. The beds are circular and are 18 inches across. They
    have a quilted bottom and padded sides.
    Jo
448.7USHS01::MCALLISTERTARDIS Sales and Service Co.Thu Jan 15 1987 19:234
    Should fit. My 20+ still tucks himself into shoeboxes (until the
    box splits).

448.8shipping prices for the cat bedsPUZZLE::CORDESJAMon Jan 19 1987 16:495
    In answer to the shipping prices question, I mailed one out this
    weekend and it cost $1.70 for the packaging envelope and $2.40 for
    the shipping costs to the east coast. The delivery was expected
    to take four to five days for first class.

448.9They're pretty too!CANVAS::SAUTATue Jan 20 1987 15:4111
    I bought a cat bed from Jo Ann last Friday, and haven't been able
    to get my cat out of it since. It is now HIS place to sleep.

    I've been seeing a lot of battles between my two over a particular
    chair that they both liked to sleep on and it was starting to get beat
    up from the constant cat fights. The cat bed has solved the problem,
    they each have their own place now. It's wonderful!

    Thanks again, Jo Ann

448.10Me, too!CLUSTA::TAMIRTue Jan 20 1987 19:0010
    I gotta add my comments about the beds, too. Mine (or really it's
    Chauncey's) bed arrived today, and it's really nice! He's got cat
    spit all over it already, having found it a great place to knead
    to his hearts content!

    Jo, you did a really nice job of sewing, and I'm glad to be able
    to support your habit! Chauncey says thanks, too!

    Mary and Lynne,
    I am very glad that you are happy with the beds. And my cats are
    glad too since now they can both go to the big show in Seattle in
    March.

    This weekend it was very cold in California so I set up the heating
    pad under one of the cat beds for our kitten to keep warm in. Well
    all four of them piled on top of each other! The bed actually held
    over 50 lbs of cat!

    Ann,

    All you have to do to order a bed is let me know where you live,
    and what color you prefer. Right now I have green calico, dark
    blue calico, lavendar-blueish calico, red with little white hearts,
    red with farm animals and kitties, light blue with farm animals
    and kitties. I think that covers it.I could also make you one in
    another color if you want but that will take longer. It takes about
    4 or 5 days to ship (first class) depending on where you are located.
    Let me know what you think.

448.14More colorsPUZZLE::CORDESJAFri Jan 30 1987 22:355
    I recently added some new colors to the bed selection. They are
    in earth tones, one tan calico, one brownish-rust calico and one
    brown with larger flowers on it.(not as small as a calico, but not
    that large either.

    HI...

    Just wanted to let everyone know that I, too, now have a cat bed
    and it is great!

    The one cat, Rascal, has claimed it for his own use and his own use
    only! And, he fits in it just fine (Rascal weighs in between 12
    - 16 lbs).

    The bed is constructed very well and has gotten several compliments
    from friends, because of the nice material.

    I would recommend it to anyone!

    I just wanted to let any interested people know that I am still
    making cat beds and will be making them with a vengeance in the coming
    months.

    I will be recovering from surgery from June to September with nothing
    else to do but make cat beds... so help me out and take some of
    them off my hands, O.K.?

    Send me mail if you are interested

    Since Honey won't let Chauncey near his cat bed anymore, I'm in
    need of another. Can you send me one that will look good on (around??)
    a cream point Himmy?? I'll give it to him for his first birthday.
    I still have your address and will stick a check in the mail first
    thing in the morning! There will be a couple pictures in the mail,
    too (can't help showing off!!).

    Happy to be of assistance in this territorial dispute! How do you
    think Chauncey would look in a cute red print bed? Or dusty blue?
    I also have some tan and rust calicos.

    Bye the way - is there anyone out there who has ordered a bed and
    not received it yet? I have an extra one and I think I know who
    it should go to but I am not sure.

    Jo Ann
448.20Decisions, decisions...CLUSTA::TAMIRFri May 15 1987 16:187
    Well, dusty blue would match his eyes, but tan and rust would match
    his face and the ca-ca stains around his eyes! Surprise me....

    The check (and photos) promised earlier this week are in the mail
    (I had to make an unplanned trip out of town).

448.22Beds still available?DONJON::STRONACHFri Jul 24 1987 13:339
Hi Jo Ann

  I'm very interested in buying one of your cat beds for my Midnight. Are
you still making them -- If possible I would like one that is blue or has
blue in the pattern. I did send you mail, but didn't know if I might have
sent it to the wrong the node.

448.23Yes, she's still making themAKA::TAUBENFELDAlmighty SETFri Jul 24 1987 15:167
    I just bought two a few weeks ago. Jo Ann is in the hospital (or
    recovering) but I believe all her mail is being forwarded to her
    sister. They're really cute, but if you have 2 kitties, you might
    not need 2 beds. Both of my kitties use the same one for fear that
    the other is getting something better. Sigh.

448.24Thanks for the inputDONJON::STRONACHFri Jul 24 1987 16:4421
 Thanks -- I'll wait for her reply -- we bought our kitties "houses"
 (long before I knew about Jo Ann's beds) that have an area on top that they
can curl up and sleep there (normally they use them only when we are in the
livingroom -- at bedtime - well, that's another story) -- the reason we didn't
buy one for Midnight, is that he's too big and heavy for these houses... even
though he sleeps where he wants to, (cuddled between my husband and I with
his head on the pillow and covered with the sheet and blanket at night) during
the day on my son's king size water bed or when its too hot, he goes downstairs
in the family room, where it is nice and cool (he's no fool).

I think he would like a place he can call his own, although knowing him,
he'll let the babies take it over. (babies!! they're a year old __ I'm
as bad as a mother introducing her youngest offspring (23 years old) to
someone and refering to him/her as "my baby".

I hope Jo Ann is doing well and is able to recuperate by a nice pool or beach.

448.25FYI - Jo Ann - Cat bedsSCRUZ::CORDES_JAJanThu Jul 30 1987 00:4021
    FYI - Jo Ann is recupering nicely at home and getting a pretty good
    tan in the process. There is a note (although I've forgotten which
    number) where we've been posting updates and where she adds a note
    whenever she comes to work for a visit if anyone is interested in
    following her progress.

    I've forwarded the mail from people who are requesting beds to her.
    She needs to know what color you want when you order the bed. It
    may be easier for people who want to order beds to give her a call
    at home so she can discuss what colors she has available or will be
    making, or maybe arrange for her to make one in the colors you need.
    If you already know what you want and don't want the expense of
    a long distance phone call, I'll be happy to relay the message.

    Her number is (408) 779-0092. She has an answering machine that picks
    up after 3 rings. If she's not sitting near the phone it sometimes
    takes her more than 3 rings to crutch/hobble to the phone so start
    talking and leave a message - she may pick up the phone shortly after
    you get started.

448.27Two kitties, two bedsCLUSTA::TAMIRSun Aug 02 1987 23:238
    I started out with one bed that my two boys had to share. It was
    OK for the first, say, 10 minutes, but seeing the two of them trying
    to squeeze in together was a riot! Good thing Chauncey is so tiny!
    Anyhow, they now each have a bed to themselves, side by side, and
    you should see them doing kitty love from their twin beds! JoAnn
    is gonna have to start making double beds!
