364.0. "Hi Tech Cat" by EUCLID::LEVASSEUR (Declaration Of War, The Short Form) Thu Oct 23 1986 19:52

Some other cat lover may find this amusing. My last roommate
and I were both cat lovers, but where we lived pets were "Ver-
botten!" We moved after the rent went up up up to a place where
pets were welcome. Ahhhh! it was nice to see cats in every other
apartment window, so I posted a kitten wanted ad in the apartment
    newsletter.
A few weeks later two charming little 5 ish girls and their
mom come knocking on our door, one girl holding a beautiful Maine
coon kitten. The mother asked if we were the people looking for
a cat. They were moving and could not take the kitten along so
we adopted and duly! named him "Rascal" for his ability to get into
any kind of trouble a kitten could.
As Rascal grew, he developed this attraction to high tech toys.
My roommate played the organ and had a console Lowrey in the living
room. Only when he sat down to practice would Rascal walk in and
out of the opening for the swell peddle, making playing pretty
hard. The cat always helped by jumping up and walking along the
    keyboard.
My stereo and VT100 were in my bedroom, hmmmm! whenever the
cat heard the beep at powerup, he came running from wherever
he was to sit stalking the text as it painted the screen. Randomly
he would jump in my lap or climb over my shoulder to paw at the
text. There were times I had to lock him out of the room when I
was logged in, due to his insistance at becomming a feline
programmer. Whenever I attempted to play records, Rascal was
there. He never showed any interest in the stereo unless I was
seated at the mixing console (I do some DJ work and mix tapes
on the side) The cat would walk abck between the two tables,
and once in a while bat my hand at the console. He showed very
little interest in normal cat toys and enjoyed watching tv,
especially cartoons and movies with a lot of action, where he
always tried joining in, jumping at the screen. The roommie
moved to Florida, and since Where I was moving cats were
definitelly out, Rascal went to Florida. I miss the little
sucker, next moves gonna be where I can have a feline
    roommate.
