353.0. "Matted Fur!!" by 7197::CIAMPAGLIA () Tue Oct 14 1986 16:13

    I have a question that I was hoping someone out there could answer
    for me. My moms cat has very long fur, and it has matted terribly
    all under her belly, the mats are too close and tight for us to
    cut them away. My question is can anyone recommend a reliable,
    reasonable cat grooming place that would take care of these terrible
    mats - maybe by shaving??? My Mom does brush the cat but I guess
    it just isn't enough.

    Mom lives in Lancaster, MA so the groomer would have to be in that
    are.

    Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

353.1Here's a place in Fitchburg!DONJON::SCHREINERPussycat, on the prowl...Tue Oct 14 1986 16:3823
    I don't know if Fitchburg would be too far for you to travel, but
    Kathy Comeau (not sure of the spelling) of Com-o-shun Pet Supplies
    does grooming. I have been told that she does an excellent job.
    She groomed a cat for me (one that I did not yet own), and when
    I picked her up she was beautiful. I was told that she was matted
    and loaded with fleas when she was brought in. She kept her 2 days
    to work on her, but when I picked her up she looked really nice.

    I did not see the condition of the cat before I picked her up, so
    I don't know how bad she really was.

    The number for Com-O-Shun Pet Supply is: 617-345-6794

    I'm not sure of the cost....I usually do my cats myself, I just
    didn't want to bring the new cat in with fleas....I will admit that
    there was not a flea to be found on her either!!!

    You may want to mention to Kathy that I referred you, you might
    get a little better price.

    OOps, I just noticed when I was looking through the phone book that
    Kathy has a seperate number for the grooming....the grooming place
    is called "Lhasa Boutique", and she advertises free pick-up and
    delivery service also.

    The number for Lhasa Boutique is: 345-4957

353.4A SUGGESTIONRDGE28::EARLYJOAN - THE EARLY BIRDTue Oct 28 1986 14:3527
    Hi,

    I can't be of an assistance for your immediate problem,
    but our neighbours have two very very hairy persian cats.
    We would see her spending ages and collecting bags of hair
    from one of them in particular, and you could actually see
    the masses of knots round the neck and underneath.

    In the past I have used a brush on ours even though they
    are not long haired which is actually a dog bursh, it is
    meant to be for Poodles and looks very like an old fashioned
    carding comb. I suggested it might be worth a try and happily
    they took us up on the suggestion and it has certainly helped.

    Perhaps you might like to try it on yours, it sounds as though
    anything might be worth a try. Although I am sure you have
    them in the States do let me know if you can't get one and I
    will be quite happy to send one to you at your location.

    Just thought I might be able to help.

    Joan
