| If the mall is the Mall of New Hampshire, you were looking at a Himalayan
kitten (who was being extremely lively and cute when we were there!). The
markings are the standard Siamese "points", though they look odd in kittens
because they haven't filled out yet. As the cat grows, the areas of color
will spread until the tail, legs, ears, and face are fairly dark. My Chiun,
who is more of a Balinese (long-haired Siamese-type) than a Himalayan
(Siamese-colored Persian-type), has gotten very dark at age 10. His
underbelly is the only part of him that's still creamy white; the rest
is in various shades of mink-brown and chocolate. (Yes, he's beautiful,
and he knows it!)
The oddest-marked cat we ever had was black with flecks of orange and
white. The speckles around her eyes gave her a really sad expression, so
we called her "Melancholy", or "Melon" for short. Alas, she proved her
name, and she and her two kittens (gray and white, took after their dad)
died of pneumonia. So now I name my cats happier things.
I can't resist pet stores, but find them rather sad, too. The cages have
large-mesh wire on the bottoms, and the cats - and especially the kittens
- find them uncomfortable. There were several black-and-white cats of
various ages, none of whom were feeling as chipper as the Himalayan kitten,
and I overheard several people saying, "But that other one looks so much
more lively..." Of course, when they learned the comparative price between
a Himalayan and a "typical" domestic shorthair, I suspect that the cats'
liveliness may have become less of a factor. (I refrained from telling them
to go to the pound if they wanted a pet, but I was thinking it.)
The rabbits were cute, too, as was a very sleepy Keeshond, sprawled across
his too-small cage. The giant black scorpions were not cute by anyone's
standards, but were admirable nonetheless.
Odd places, pet shops.

| I have a 7 year old famale named Dusty Pupkins who has some very unusual
markings. She's sort of a Tabby. Mostly black, withone tan foot and
a tan 'goatee'. (Yes, it really looks like a goatee.) She's then got tiny
spots (about half the diameter of a penny) in orange, brown, tan, and white
scattered across the rest of her.
I've seen the kitten you mentioned, it is adorable. I think himilayans
are just really beautiful full grown and really cute as kittens. My husband
and I are both anaimal lovers and find pet stores hard to resist. (Even
though all of our cats were strays, except one which was my mother's cat's
kitten.) I don't think we've ever made it out of the mall (any mall fo
that matter) without spending at least ten minutes checking out the critters.

| Our kitty, Figaro, is mostly black with a white chest that comes right up
under her nose (looks like she has a tiny mustache.) The odd thing about
her are the whiskers above her eyes. One side is completely black and the
other is completely white! The black whiskers are almost invisible against
the black fur, so she looks like she has only one "eyebrow".

| Our neighbors just got a new kitten from the Animal Rescue League of Boston.
His name is Wackford, and he's an orange tiger, except for a pure-white
'cape' that circles his neck. He has yellow eyes. He loves to jump several
feet in the air chasing bugs, leaves, my house keys, his tail ... wish
I had half his energy! ...... BRG
