60.0. "HECATE" by PUFFIN::KENDRA () Thu Jan 24 1985 15:46

Our Siamese, Stew, hibernates during the winter in the upstairs
bathroom next to a register (minimum temp is probably 90 degrees!).
He comes down to eat, screech hello and/or complain, and take care of his
bowels. For an adolescent cat (9 years old), he spends an inordinate
amount time sleeping.

Hecate, the eldest (10), prefers company - craves attention and is
utterly dependent on me (she'll settle for my husband in my absence).
Over the years, she displayed a number of unusual habits, including:
picking food up and eating from her paw, fetching her "baby" (a scrap of
wool) while woefully crying, and standing on her hind legs in order
to tap people (sitting at the dining room table) for their attention.

Did someone once say that cats were independent creatures, lacking
personality?!

My two cats occupy opposite ends of the feline personality spectrum.

Ada is seven months old and very independent. True, she will accept a bit of
petting and scratching just before we go to sleep, but only on her terms.
The rest of the time, she actively stays out of my way.

Loiosh, on the other hand, is four months old and VERY dependent. He sleeps
under the covers, either in the crook of my arm or draped across my chest.
He'll curl up for hours on my lap when I'm watching TV or working at the
terminal. He's very talkative, and doesn't hesitate to complain when he
feels he's being mistreated (i.e., not being pampered enough).

These two are the best of friends. Even as I type, they're curled up
together in a heap on the couch, cleaning each other's heads and ears.
Perhaps another old saw is really true: opposites attract. :-)

We have a cat that knocks on door nobs to go in or out. He is strong
and loud and there has been many a nite that he has scared the wits
out of me. He also taps people to get attention.

Our other cat gets impatient when we pull into the driveway and sit
in the car to talk for awhile instead of getting right out. He
jumps on the hood of the car and meows. Then he leans over the
side of the roof and peers in the window. You know it works. We
can't resist him, it is so cute. Of course, we then get out and
    give him his attention.
