among them, think about 75 year old sagging breast and buttock

My sister started with one little tattoo...that's how it *always*
starts...just a little tiny `Garfield' clinging to her shoulder
blade...seemed harmless at the time...little did we know...
Her latest tattoo (of about 2 or 3 dozen, now) was of disembodied teeth
and fangs screaming through the air trailing flames.
I hope she feels the same way about it in 30 years' time.

| There is a difference between getting a nice tattoo and getting a
crushed skull with maggots and long fingernails on an open wounded hand
type tattoo.
My hubby has a rose with a ribbon running around it on one arm that
says "Gail". On the other arm he has two roses with ribbons that match
the other arm. The ribbons say "Alyssa" and "Krystin", which are our
kids. Personally, I think it is a very nice tattoo.
Now, as far as women with tattoos... In my opinion it is very tacky
for a cheap looking woman to have this 4 inch tattoo on her chest so
that she constantly has to wear a revealing tank-top so that everyone
in the world will see it. That's disgusting in my opinion. I once saw
the most beautiful looking woman in a bar once that had a tattoo of a
bleeding dragons head right in the middle of her forehead! Excuse me,
couldn't you have just colored your hair or something for attention?
Did you really have to plaster that hideous looking tattoo on what was
a beautiful face?
I have two tattoos. I have one on my ankle (a heart with a ribbon) and
one high up on my hip (a butterfly). Most people don't even know I
have a tattoo because it's not out in the open. The only time you can
see the one on my hip is when I wear a high-cut bathing suit. And the
one on my ankle can only be seen when I'm not wearing socks.
Nice/beautiful/tasteful tattoos = yes
Puss-ridden/disgusting/tasteless tattoos = no

| Terrie,
I have a tattoo too and I am far from looking cheap. The bar down the
street from me that I used to go to every weekend had different
categories of women. Like this:
1. Those that were there just to have a drink, be with friends and
have fun and dance.
2. Those that wore what used to be mini-skirts, but shrunk 4 sizes in
the dryer, but were still worn, fish-net pantyhose, a tank top that
looks like it would fit Barbie, 6-inch spiked heels, and had they're
fake, bright red painted claws in EVERY single guy in the place.
Believe me, this is the type of woman that tried to get ahold of my
hubby while I was standing right in front of him. And after I looked
at her and said, "Excuse me, this one is married...to me" and her reply
was "Married men are better."
How's that for an explanation of a cheap woman?
PS Who was it that called me a few minutes ago?

tattoos, I don't like getting stuck with things.

attractive. There are at least three magazines covering this topic and
when I get a chance I glance through them at a bookstore. Some
exceptional tattoo artists have their works featured in these
magazines. Saw one last summer that was a real attention getter.
Covered the guy's entire back and it was a scene of Merlin the Magician
with left arm raised holding a crystal ball, the background done in
blues and purples was a night sky with shooting stars. Absolutely
fantastic! Exceptional artwork in this one. He did say it cost a lot of
$$$ as it had to be done in small sections due to healing time, etc.
and because the artist was so good. My great uncle had one which
covered his chest- bald eagle in the middle and the American flag on
one side and the British Union Jack on the other side. All of us kids
in the neighborhood thought it was fantastic. However, there is no way
in hell anyway anyone is going to convince me that people who are "into
body piercing" aren't in desperate need of some mental evaluation.
Desperate for attention IMHO.

If so, why?
On the subject of -- in Australia, Tatoos and body piercings for
fashion/trendiness are OUT. What's in? Branding! That's right
folks, the Aussies now have centers where an artist will sculpt
your own design in metal, then burn it into your skin. I think

Well..... if you're thinking about getting one make sure
you ask before hand about the pain involved in the area
you'd like it placed. I had mine placed on my upper chest
and because of the muscle structure = OOOOWWWWWWW, of course
I _didn't_ ask this question before he started and it was
a bit too late when I did. I have a very high threshold

Note 257.75, Joe:
>Do such people sound like they have a speech impediment or
>are speaking with their mouths full? Does the piercing item
>click on their teeth?
Come to think of it, I never noticed any change after she had it done.
The item itself is well back on the tongue, out of the way of the
teeth.
>Or should we just assume that people stupid enough to do this
>wouldn't be able to speak clearly anyway, so there is no great
>loss if you don't hear them... :^)
My sister is about the loudest person I know, so I still have no
problem hearing her. :^)

RE.111
Whilst channel surfing one night I found a show on the discovery
channel, they were doing a show on some african tribe, these people
make a incision through the lower lip, then they cut a small piece from
a tree branch and insert it through the incision. they call it a plug,
the older the person the bigger the plug (they start at age 7 or 8) it
was definatly different.
Now back to more important things

| you gotta admit one thing... i think everyone's in favor of freedom
of expression, pursuit of individuality, and whatever "floats your
boat", but let's face it, there are tons of folks out there that
are taking on a lot more water than their bilge pumps can handle!

| Euuwwww....I HATE needles!
No tatoos for me, nope.
I personally wouldn't get one even if I did ever get over that
needle-phobia, but that's me. You can do what you like with your own
skin (though I've certainly seen more tacky tattoos than "tasteful"
ones- especially on women).

folks these days. Once restricted to the S&M groupies, it's spread through
the heavy metal and grunge fraternities into everyday culture. What do the
'boxers at large feel about tattoos, scarring and piercing of sensitive bits?
List your bodily modifications here! (Nothing much to mention on my part,
I once thought of getting a tattoo, but couldn't be arsed, and don't have
any modifications, other than a hole in my ear (intentional) and my foot
(unintentional, courtesy of a garden fork), and some interesting scars on
my hands caused by hitting people/objects)

building. THAT is something that is magnificent, and has been
admired throughout history as demonstrated by art and sculpture.
Any gang urchin can deface a building with spray paint and

What does that mean?
According to end-times predictions, ALL people (except those
who resist -- at their own peril) will bear the mark of the
Beast.
Many theories abound regarding what exactly that mark will be,
but without it you will not be able to participate in simple
economic transactions, travel, or do much of anything else in
the end-time society. Some theorize that the "mark" will be a
particular credit card, or perhaps a social security number, or
maybe something more mark-like, such as a tattoo or a computer
chip imbedded in your hand or forehead.

This thread seems a bit quiet. Does this mean that Tattoos and piercings
have become socially unaccepteable again.
This doesn't reflect newgroup trends.
It seems that ear, nose and navel pierces are quite popular, but
mention a pierce "down there" and un-bodymodded people still squick.
Personally I think my PA is great, unfortunately my wife doesn't think
so. "I'm not going anywhere near *that*"
Still, she's several thousand miles away, and will be for several more

Well, even after my first experience (somewhere back in this
string) I still went out and braved another one! Of course, it's very
beautiful and tasteful - I got a number of compliments on it over the

When people get around to piercing their genitals, it seems that they
have a surfeit of free time and a lack of imagination when it comes to
filling it. It's not a case of being squicked, particularly, it's more
a matter of "what a stupid thing to do." Then again, I don't see
injecting ink into one's dermis as being a terribly bright activity
either. Seems like a call for attention- "look at ME!" based on the
oddity/shock value. I'd rather DO something worthy of attention than
just look different. Different strokes.
What's next, a nose piercing? Or cosmetic amputation?

I've already seen nose piercings, on TV anyway...
What's next, one asks? Remember when they grew that human ear
on the back of a mouse a while ago? I predict that people will
start to grow extra parts on their faces. This should make family
reunions even more entertaining: "Why Johnny, I hardly recognize
you. You've grown so much! And your face... looks different..."

Not really. As long as you understand you can't / won't change

other people. Just as not everyone is "acceptable" to me - weather

As if this isn't the reaction you're looking for. You WANT to stand
out in a crowd. If nobody had replied, you'd be frustrated. I think
it's a totally dorky thing to do, but if it flies your flag who's to
say it's wrong? You aren't hurting anyone else by poking holes in your

Besides, that's not where people go to get good work done. That's
where self-proclaimed "tattoo masters" go to impress people with
sub-standard work.

a reputation for himself on his tattoo artistry. His
work has been in some magazines if I remember it correctly.

Yes, tattooing is illegal here.
But it's legal in RI/CT/NH and probably 40 other states in the US.

The way it was told to me, and I don't have any supporting
documentation, is that where the Government Center is today, there was a
area of tattoo shops and "other kinds of business'" - in order for the city
to get the land and not have to pay for it - they decided to "clean" up the
city and outlaw tattoo shops, and presumably whatever else was there.

Scollay Square. There was unsavory business there, but there was also
other business - including theaters that had in the not too-distant
past been among the finest vaudeville houses in the country. The old
Howard Theater comes to mind.

Over here, tattooing circles wouldn't be very popular. Tattooing birds,
snakes, hearts and complex designs is the rage over here.
So brits just like circles eh?
