205.0. "Visitors Center" by SIERAS::DAY () Tue Dec 20 1994 15:41

    I'm creating a vistior note for ex-DECcies like myself that are still
    lucky enough to borrow someone's account for a few stolen moments to
    read SOAPBOX once again. I hope all is well in the confernce. Where's
    BUBBA?

    funny, jack...i was serious. i realize that this is not a very
    sensitive notesfile (just noters), but it is digital's notesfile, and
    if we as employees can't express our feelings about other company's or
    products without violating some p&p, i didn't think it'd be ok for
    non-digital employees (not counting the contractor, because they have
    been 'okayed', so to speak) to log on via someone one else's account...

205.8AIMHI::JMARTINBarney IS NOT a nerd!!Tue Dec 20 1994 16:479
    I realize that and am just teasing. You'll notice for example that an
    obscure noter will come in once in awhile...somebody unfamiliar who
    will usually have a fettish about wearing women's undies...

    9 out of 10 times it's a security person temping. They have access to
    all of it. If the company allows this, then then must not be too
    worried about it!

    as i was told by darch some years ago.

    if you're not a current employee or on contract work you are NOT
    allowed access to most DEC computing resources. this was discussed at
    length when some guy let his wife type some replies a few years ago.

    something like...

     hi, i'm janie, so and so's wife.....blah blah blah..

    can't do that and it shouldn't be allowed here. it'll only draw the
    attention of the network gestapo.

205.11Contractors need not give a rat's ass about DEC.SCAPAS::GUINEO::MOOREI'll have the rat-on-a-stickWed Dec 21 1994 04:2810
    I suppose I'll have to get off, then. Having cut my teeth on VMS 1.0
    and having spent almost 20 years working on DEC machines, and finally
    walking in the door here, I had better leave, because I'm a contractor
    for DEC. I must therefore not give a hoot about my department's
    revenues, or my fellow DEC employees. I'm just here to steal your
    secrets (and also, to unload upon your simpering little soul).

    Pardon me, get a life.

205.12HBFDT2::SCHARNBERGSenior KodierwurstWed Dec 21 1994 07:4921

    To get this clear then,

    this topic (and this entire conference for that matter) is
    			*NOT*
    open for visitors to sign in.

    			*BUT*
    Digital employees or contractors who have the pleasure of being visited
    by a former boxer are encouraged to post greetings in here on
    behalf of said former boxer. And to ease things up a little, it is
    			*not required*
    for these people being visited to sign their notes. They may even
    write in direct speech what the visiting ex-boxer dictates to them,
    granted Digital Noting rules are not violated (see P&P 6.54 or
    something).

    me neither. all i saw was statements, some mine, that people who were
    neither employees or contractors are forbidden by dec policy from
    accessing some dec resources. notes and the network are including in
    those resources.
