            Extraverted iNtuitive Feeling Judging

ENFJs are the benevolent 'pedagogues' of humanity.  They have tremendous
charisma by which many are drawn into their nurturant tutelage and/or grand 
schemes.  Many ENFJs have tremendous power to manipulate others with their 
phenomenal interpersonal skills and unique salesmanship.  But it's usually 
not meant as manipulation -- ENFJs generally believe in their dreams, and 
see themselves as helpers and enablers, which they usually are. 

ENFJs are global learners.  They see the big picture.  The ENFJs focus is
expansive.  Some can juggle an amazing number of responsibilities or projects 
simultaneously.  Many ENFJs have tremendous entrepreneurial ability. 

ENFJs are, by definition, Js, with whom we associate organization and
decisiveness.  But they don't resemble the SJs or even the NTJs in
organization of the environment nor occasional recalcitrance.  ENFJs are
organized in the arena of interpersonal affairs.  Their offices may or may
not be cluttered, but their conclusions (reached through feelings) about
people and motives are drawn much more quickly and are more resilient than
those of their NFP counterparts. 

ENFJs know and appreciate people. Like most NFs, (and Feelers in general),
they are apt to neglect themselves and their own needs for the needs of
others.  They have thinner psychological boundaries than most, and are at risk
for being hurt or even abused by less sensitive people.  ENFJs often take on
more of the burdens of others than they can bear.

This refers to the open-door policy of ENFJs.  One ENFJ colleague always
welcomes me into his office regardless of his own circumstances. If
another person comes to the door, he allows them to interrupt our
conversation with their need.  While discussing that need, the phone rings
and he stops to answer it.  Others drop in with a 'quick question.' I
finally get up, go to my office and use the call waiting feature on the
telephone.  When he hangs up, I have his undivided attention!

    No, however... (and I'm pretty sure I told this story before):

    I had just left a session at Syncro Sound on Newbury Street
    in Boston, and I had my Steinberger bass slung over my shoulder.
    The Steinberger is a strange little bass that looks something
    like a black canoe paddle. Instead of the usual hard-shell
    case like one would have with a Fender-style bass, the Steinberger
    uses a suspicious looking cloth bag...

    So, this guy walks up to me and says "Hi, would you like to
    take a free psychological test offered by the Church of
    Scientology? Oh, and by the way, what's in that bag".

    Looking as evil as I can, I replied "A high power rifle with
    a laser night scope. Now what was that you were saying about
    a psychological test?"

    Fortunately, he went away at high speed before I even finished
    the second sentence.

    It's called the Oxford Capacity Analysis.  After correlating my results
    with those of more than a dozen others whom I knew to have taken it, I
    arrived at the conclusion that it is very cleverly designed to show
    that the subject is overall a remarkably competent individual but could
    really use some help with communication skills.
    
    Coincidentally, the very first course offered by the Church of
    Scientology, the Hubbard Apprentice Scientologist course, is intended
    to improve the student's communication skills.  This course is even
    referred to by scientologists as the comm course.
    

The scientology test is designed for the test taker to say "Oh you seem
to have a few problems, and the Church of Scientology can help you out"

Someone posted a "cheat sheet" for their test on the alt.religion.scientology
newsgroup a while ago that's supposed to get an interesting reaction from them.

(be very careful when dealing with them  They can be nasty)

    chick started talking to me on the street.  What was I to do? :^).
    
    They said "We want you to understand that this is not *our* opinion of
    you, it's *your* opinion of you, and frankly, it's pretty low."
    
    Then came the sales pitch.  Then came the vapour trail as I sped outta

    I'm an ISTP with the "P" score basically off the chart.  I found this
    stuff fascinating.  Especially when I was told most ISTPs drop out of
    high school to drive a truck or something like that.

    off the top of my head, i can't remember what i scored when i last took
    this test (in a speech class, of all places).  but i do recall being
    told that what i was was the 1 of the 2 most common combinations and of
    a class of about 25 people, i was the only one with either combo...

Beneath the quiet exterior, INFJs hold deep convictions about the weightier
matters of life.  Those who are activists -- INFJs gravitate toward such a
role -- are there for the cause, not for personal glory or political power.

INFJs are champions of the oppressed and downtrodden.  They often are found

    In case you haven't noticed, I don't particularly like communists
    either, and Chomsky's about as red as Santa Claus. But I admire
    Chomsky's work, particularly in the area of computational linguistics
    (an area of study he more or less defined.)

    So your hero Chomsky is both a commie and sack of chite?  

      The people who have mentioned their results are overall not
      like the average.  Only 25% are intuitives.
    
      Joan, your profile is one of the two least common as there
      are more extroverts than introverts and more sensers than
      intuitives.
    
      One thing that I think is also important are the scores.
      For example, I only scored a 7 extrovert which is pretty small,
      but I also scored a 41 intuitive which is really high.  In
      fact, among ~50 people who took the test, I had the highest
      intuitive score.
    
      The preference is important, but the score says a lot too.
    
      I think this stuff is really interesting.  What it said was
      right on with much of who I am as a person.  I know some seem
      to discard this as some 'psycho-crap' or something along those
      lines, but I see it as a first order approximation of personality
      types.  I'm sure its all more complex than this, but it serves
      as a neat estimate.
    
      I don't really understand some of the criticism of this I guess
      because I fail to see a rational explanation that serves as
      basis for the criticism!

    Tests are normalized on large populations and provide, as you say a
    first-order approximation.  On an individual bases, there is too much
    scope for variance between how we perceive ourselves, how whe think
    others perceive us, and what the test results say.
    
    Too much variance leads to cognitive dissonance - so people naturally
    mistrust the test scores over their own perceptions. (And rightly so.)

I had a look at the personality test.  What a load of bollocks.  It claimed 
that I'm a total extrovert, can't get much more inaccurate than that.

The test showed me to be an ISTJ, which is absolutely accurate, IMO.

I checked, as I was amazed at how inaccurate the results were.  The legends 
hadn't been reversed...

or at least bloody cold.  Anyway, the duvet has returned to its rightful place 
on the bed, now (which is where I feel I should be, I'm knackered)

    This personality test seems similar to one DEC was sponsoring in
    the early 80's, but the course I took was Social Style Sales
    Strategies.  The course was designed and facilitated by a gentleman
    named Jack O'Connell.
    
    This course also categorized people into 4 categories, but O'Connell's
    theory was everyone has a primary mode and a backup mode.  People were
    classified as Drivers, Expressives, Amiables and Analyticals...the
    concept being that most true sales people were Driver/Drivers....
    although many in my class were Driver/Expressives. (Driver still being
    the predominant part of their personaltiy). The only Driver/Driver
    in the class was a sales rep from NYC (he fit the profile shown on
    the film right on). :-)
    
    Based on films shown and what I read in the course material, I was
    sure I was an Expressive/Amiable.  O'Connell said it was unusual
    for a person to have their backup mode the same as their primary
    mode.
    
    The profiles filled out on each person was from people inside DEC
    and friends outside DEC.
    
    I turned out to be an Analytical/Analytical; this concept horrified
    me because the A/A in the film was the sterotype nerd.  He wore
    plaid polyester pants (highwaters), white patent leather belt and
    shoes, plastic pocket protector, crew cut and black horn-rimmed
    glasses ;-}  Since half the class was female, we told Jack he
    needed to update the film, although I don't how a female nerd
    would dress ;-}
    
    O'Connell said I didn't fit the A/A profile because I was an active
    and vocal participant in the classroom (evidently most A/A's are
    very introverted).  The only other A/A in the class never opened his
    mouth the entire week unless he was called on to do so.
    
    O'Connell gave me another packet and told me to have different
    people fill out the questionaires; it still came back A/A :-(
    O'Connell called me when the second set of results came in, he
    finally got me to laugh about it because he said being analytical
    isn't bad; he said the coursework I'd handed in definitely indicated
    I was analytical, but he thought there was an expressive side to my
    personality that he saw in the classroom, but evidently the computer
    (and others) saw me differently.
    
    Wish I'd had contact with the Lager Lout back in those days, "load
    of bollocks" was how I felt after participating in the class!!
