Ahhhh I arrive in style to find a topic just for Booze !

'Booze 7.99 Pub' (in a deep speaking northern accent)
    'Plonk 1.29 offie)
'Nuts...Nowt...prized out of machine at end of pier'

    sorry.
529.16LANDO::OLIVER_BThu Aug 24 1995 13:407
Booze should be outlawed. Booze causes more misery
and grief than all the other drugs combined.

Booze is poison. It is bad, bad, bad.

My favorite: an extra dry Absolut martini, straight up,
with a twist. Ice on the side.
529.17POLAR::RICHARDSONBooze ain't foodThu Aug 24 1995 13:432
Perhaps you should try a heating pad on the side if you find the ice
    isn't working.

    > an extra dry Absolut martini
                   ^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^
    Oxymoron alert.

Any serious drinker of Martinis knows that they do not under any
circumstances contain vodka. I make my Marts with 12 parts Tanqueray,
1 part Noilly Prat, and two queen-size olives. Straight up. Shaken,
not stirred, and I don't give a rat's posterior if that sounds like a
cute James Bomb affectation, it's the way I like the things.
529.19LANDO::OLIVER_BThu Aug 24 1995 14:237
Mr. Binder, welcome to the brave new world of
vodka martinis...I just prefer vodka over
gin...but perhaps I should expand my horizons
and try Tanqueray, the top shelf stuff.

I don't know, gin always tasted like a liquid
pine tree to me.

      martinis, Absolut martinis, Stoli
martinis, etc. contain vodka. that's why
      they're called that. ;>

      gin - feh.

if you can spare 'em. the small ones.

Tanqueray is indeed top-shelf stuff, distinctly different from other
gins. Bombay Sapphire is also right up there, but I don't happen to
like the mix of herbals in it, so I stick to Tanqueray.

	Drunken Tomatoes
	----------------

As many Ripe Cherry Tomatoes as you like
Kosher Salt
Vodka

Place Vodka in freezer the night before.

To a pan of boiling water, add the cherry tomatoes, and return
to a boil. Blanch the tomatoes for 30 seconds, then drain and
rinse with cold water. Peel the intact cherry tomatoes and arrange
carefully in a dish which can be covered. Cover and refrigerate
the peeled tomatoes for at least four hours.

Remove tomatoes from refrigerator, spike each one with a toothpick,
and arrange in a dish as deep as the tomatoes are high, stacked
side by side closely in a single layer. Cover to half depth with the
frozen vodka.

Serve the cherry tomatoes in their "marinade" next to a small dish of
Kosher Salt for dipping.

When the tomatoes are gone, add the remaining "marinade" to a glass of
tomato juice with a dash of worcestershire sauce, a dash of hot sauce,
a dash of lemon juice, and about half a teaspoon of ground horseradish.
Quaff it all down at your leisure and tell yourself ya done good.

I encountered a very interesting drink at the wedding I went to over the
    weekend......

                            The Memory Eraser !

Take an old fashioned glass, fill with ice.
    1/3 Kahluah (sp?)
    1/3 Vodka
    1/3 Soda Water

    DO NOT STIR!

Place straw(s) at bottom of glass and consume as a "shot" (i.e. not to
exceed 3 swallows). You will feel each layer as you hit it. It
produces a very interesting and pleasant effect during consumption.

The next morning is another matter all together. :-)

Have three or four of these in a short period of time, and you will
figure out why it's called the memory eraser.....you just won't
remember it the next day! ;-)

FAKE VODKA SHIPMENT SEIZED IN MOSCOW. Police discovered 20 train cars filled
with fake vodka in a Moscow train station, ITAR-TASS reported on 2 June.
Officials estimated that the shipment of some 240,000 bottles of undrinkable
alcohol with false labels would have been worth about 12 billion rubles ($2
million) on the black market. The alcohol was reported to have originated in
North Ossetia. A large part of the North Ossetian work force was made
redundant after the closure of factories supplying the military-industrial
complex and subsequently turned to manufacturing fake alcoholic beverages,
Nezavisimaya gazeta reported on 31 May. Fake vodka produced in Krasnoyarsk has
killed at least 22 people during the last week.
