I think the official "changeover" comes at or around noon on the
20th... the old prez probably doesn't hang around for long after
that, mainly because there's nowhere for him to sit. :-)

I can imagine the scene... the new prez and his staff are busy
in the Oval Office, and the old prez is standing around like a
fifth wheel, watching, and occasionally trying to get into the
conversation, with mostly futile results. Once in a while he gets
a puzzled stare from one of the new staffers. Finally he slowly
starts working his way over to the door, mumbling "Well... heh...
I guess, uh, I guess if you don't need me for anything else,
I'll head on out. Okay? I said... excuse me... uh, I... (points
to door as new prez waves quickly in his direction) okay, bye."

I was too young to understand what Hartman was all about but I've
always wondered. How was it described at the time? In hindsight, just
what was it supposed to be? It was a serial so must have had a soap
opera element. What was wrong with Mary Hartman? Why was she always
    so anxious?

325.41NOTIME::SACKSGerald Sacks ZKO2-3/N30 DTN:381-2085Mon Mar 06 1995 17:566
Fernwood 2-Nite was a spin-off of MHMH. It later became America 2-Nite.
It starred Martin Mull.

MHMH was billed as a parody of soap operas. It was on at about the same
time as "Soap," which was also a parody of soap operas. The two were
vastly different. I think MHMH was much better.

As one of the referenced whiners, I have to add this. Speaking for
myself only, I could care less that you et al are happy and comfy in
your relationship with the All Mighty. Do we need a dozen or so notes
to get this point across? Folks bitched about more than one Clinton
note ditto more than one note about most topics. There have to be
close to a dozen notes on how Jesus picked his nose and when Jesus got
up and how He acted and all sorts of wonderfully fulfilling topics. If
you wish to praise Him and relate to us all (over and over again) how
your relationship is special and all, great. Pick a topic and do it
but for crying out loud, don't start another one. To not rat hole
this too far, I hope I don't see yet another effing religious topic but
I know I am only setting myself up for disappointment.

    re: .91

Actually, I agree with you. We do not need to continually add topics
to the ranks of religious discussion.

I for one, am VERY happy to see the OJ topic stick within the confines of
the single OJ topic. Makes it easy for me to next unseen, and easy for
those who are interested to discuss/read of the latest about this trial.

I would equally like to see ONE topic to discuss religion. I think
this would be enough. I understand that religion may enter other
topics as they digress, but this should only be a brief interlude.

I've restricted my discussion in here as of late, as I did not want to
add gasoline to the fire. However, the incessant whining (general box
whining, no one specifically) triggered my earlier reaction in
this topic. I think the whining just helps to add to the proliferation
of religious notes, as some noters then feel obligated to explain further
why they have participated in a given topic. The inevitable
misunderstandings lead to more religious-based notes, which try to
explain said misunderstandings (etc...you get the idea).

As a Christian, I feel more than a little uncomfortable with the
current tone in the box. I think some Christians have added gasoline
to the fire of those who are aggrivated by the proliferation of
religious topics/notes, and some non-Christians have done the same
by whining or taking certain things out of context (which leads to
    defensiveness/further explanations).

Let's just dust our feet off and move on, shall we? I've enjoyed this
file over the years, and would hate to have to extract myself from it
for any length of time. But if the signal to noise ratio keeps on its
current pace of deterioration, this is a distinct possibility for me
(and I would blame no one or group for "chasing" me away; it would just
be a matter of getting tired of the tone and the decreasing amount of
good discussion, to the point of it not being worth my time to go through

I hope I never see another NHL game where the only tv coverage is provided
by Fox and their magic puck!! Bluuuuuurrrrggghhhh!! Do you Americans
really have such a hard time with the game that you need a blue aura
surrounding the puck and a red streak everytime there is a shot on goal?
That's the party line we're being fed for the changes and I just don't buy
it. If that was the case, the same could be said for baseball and golf.
325.155WAHOO::LEVESQUEmemory canyonTue Jan 23 1996 15:392

Would you want to see the same thing with baseball coverage? I would think
that's much harder for the eye to follow than a puck. I wouldn't mind it if
it was just for replays, but I think they would do better to concentrate on
improving their play-by-play guys, camera angles and general presentation if
they are hoping to improve their viewership. Not to be a homer or anything,
but the Fox guys could learn a lot if they would spend some time with the
Hockey Night in Canada producers.

    	So that's what they did?

FOX was making a big deal about it, and I was going to tape it
and watch it later to see what was going on.

Hopefully it didn't affect the players, though ... would be
very annoying being a goalie and seeing a bright red streak
coming at you every few minutes.

Apparently you've never seen a baseball game on TV. :-) It's way easier
to follow a baseball than a hockey puck.

>I wouldn't mind it if it was just for replays,

I liked that it was only on one camera. Some of the other (closer)
    cameras didn't need it.

I'm partial to the Bruins commentators, myself. There's nothing like
listening to Fred Cusick call a game. (The only problem is the other
team can score 2 goals while you're gone to the fridge for a beer and
you'll never know it, but if the Bruins score, it's quite obvious. :-)
