424.0. "Dental Plans" by ASDG::FAY () Tue May 16 1995 15:48

Has anyone tried supplemental dental plans, like Delta
or Signature? They claim to pay a larger portion of the
bill than, let's say - John Handcock...

    What are your experiences?

Why? Are you down in the mouth about the Digital Dental Plan? Looking for
something to bridge the gap?

Well I will be having some expensive work done
soon and I am looking for a way to pay for it.
If I could find a dentist that charged what J.H.
calls reasonable costs, I would be afraid to use
them :). J.H.'s 80% usually works out to be 50%-40%.

According to my father, a dentist, the best plan is to either
marry a dentist, or have one of your offspring marry one.

Actually, I was pretty sure Raq would need an explanation, but
I didn't want to single her out so I added a 2nd name ... and
Deb's was the 1st one that came to mind.

Did it ever strike you, Shawn, that casting aspersions on someone's
mental capacity is NOT the way to make friends and influence people?
Is it any business of yours whether or not someone needs a joke
explained to her? You could have let her make the request herself if
you were so concerned about increasing her humour quotient.

I didn't need to have heard the joke before to understand it. I CAN
read, and I believe Raquel can read also.

Miss Deb, who are you kidding, we here all know that you women just
don't have the mental capacity to understand things like us men can.
It's a biological chemistry type thing (that means it's natural). Now
just sit there and look pretty like a good girl.

Alright, maybe it's not the greatest idea in the world to use
my mother or my 25-year old sister as reference points for the
whole female gender, but I do. If you don't explain a joke to

second of all, shawn, dear fellow, if your mother and your sister are
what you use as a stereotype for all females, then i predict you are
going to be a bachelor for a very long time.

thirdly, i didn't need the stupid joke explained to me. i don't

    I've used the term "Oracleer."

I like Oracleer better than Orcan. (Or Orcoid, Oracalite,
    	Oracalian, Oracler, ...)
424.44CSC32::J_OPPELTHe said, 'To blave...'Wed May 17 1995 22:037
As for why the Oracle plan is better, so far I've found that
they are paying a better percentage of non-maintenance stuff,
and they are paying 100% of all maintenance stuff. Also they
pay 50% up to $2000 for orthodontics. If I recall, DEC only
paid 50% up to $500. Also, Oracle in essence picks up the
employee-paid portion of the dental insurance plan which is
$38/month for the full family plan.

Um, I misread the basenote when I originally replied.

Oracle is not a supplementary dental plan. It is the
dental plan that we who work at Oracle Systems get as
a dental benefit, just as you get one from DEC that you
    	feel the need to supplement.
