152.23(Almost) life-sized BarbieDECWIN::RALTOSuffering from p/n writer's blockWed Dec 07 1994 19:4819
So, what's the story with this "life-sized Barbie"?

They do the commercial in a pretty bizarre way: they show
what looks like a typical Barbie doll in a head-and-shoulders
shot, and then a kid walks up and stands next to it, as the
"grabber". At first you think the kid is the size of a little
Barbie doll, since the doll is apparently identical to the 12"
version other than the scaled-up dimensions.

The problem is, the kid looks like she's about 7-8, and is level
with the doll, but the fine print in the ad says the doll is 36"
tall. So what's up here?... even most 5-year-olds are more than
    36" tall.

Oh well, at least she can wear the kid's clothes, so you don't
have to spend a fortune on special Barbie clothes (the original
    suck-'em-in intent behind Barbie).

following numerous jokes over the years directed both to and from my
sweeties brothers, one of whom is a SJ police officer and the other an
avid scuba diver, for xmas this year we got 'Officer Barbie' and
'Snorkel Barbie' dolls to give them. Our six-yr-old can hardly contain
himself; he is anxiously awaiting the day his 50-yr-old uncle opens his
Officer Barbie doll, complete with evening gown for the Police
    Officer's Ball.

About two months ago I was in Toys (backerds "R") Us.

There were several cases on the floor from the employees attempting to
stock the shelves, except that there were about fifteen adults (and I
use the term loosely) reaching in and grabbing stuff out of the boxes
and literally out of the hands of the clerks.

They were cases of "Mitey Morfin Pauer Reingers".

    I was amazed.

I keep on hearing about the MMPRs but I really have no clue what they
are. Is this a cartoon show or does it have real live people?
American or foreign? Male, female, humanoid, animal, what? And what
do they do that makes them so popular?
152.49GMT1::TEEKEMATangerine Dream.Fri Dec 09 1994 15:1310
They are teenage kids that have powers that transform
them into power rangers. They have colorful suits and use
kung-fu stype fighting to defeat the bad guys. The bad guys
are fictional "animals" kind of like the bad guys from the
Teenage-Mutant-Ninja-Turtles.

The bad guys are actors in costumes. Kinda like
godzilla. You have to see it to get the full flavor.

The show seems to have both a positive and a negative
influence on my kids. Bad is violence solves the problem, good
is it does stress friendship and male/female equality. It is
far less violent than the cartoons they watch.

Mz Debra, each power ranger can jump into different dinosaur-like metal
creatures. And like transformers, they can all combine into one big creature,
which at this time you get your godzilla type scenes.

Now, if you really want to watch Dr Who in the New England area, you
can catch an adventure, in it's full form, at 11:00 pm Friday nights on channel
11 in NH. I have found most cable companies do carry it somewhere on the dial.
