69.0. "New Heavy Metal" by CALDEC::RAH (the truth is out there.) Fri Nov 18 1994 20:53

New transuranic element was created by bombarding Pb
    with Ni atoms.

The result is a very heavy metal indeed. But, the institute
    needs a name. Any nominees?

Ask Ludwig Plutonium on the Internet. He has every element up to 190 named.
He has new names for the isotopes of common elements as well.

I suspect they may call it Darmstadtium after the hometown of the
Institute where it was discovered (or invented, since they in effect
    manufactured it).

Hmmm. I suppose that the Institute for Ion Research isn't necessarily even
part of the Department of Nuclear Physics at the THD.

Well, name it after him anyway; he's an all-around good guy.

Is this element on the new Periodic Table? If so, I guess my
"Periodic Table coffee mug" is obsolete since it doesn't have
    	this on it.

And how often do they update the table [he asks innocently]?

Better get out a hammer and smash that mug to pieces. It's highly obsolete
now, since they're up to 112 now.
