649.0. "Processional/Recessional-what's the proper order?" by PHHSS1::MWALLA (He asked and I said 'Yes!') Wed Apr 09 1997 13:53

What's the proper order for the processional? I've got three adult
women (2 bridesmaids and one maid of honor), one junior bridesmaid
(9 years old niece), two flower girls (5 and 7 year old nieces) and,
    of course, me (the bride!).

As far as the guys, four men are standing with my fiance.

The two flower girls will be seated immediately with their dads so
they don't get too overwhelmed and bored.

As far as the recessional - I was thinking:
    	me & groom
    	maid of honor/best man
    	bridesmaid/groomsman
bridesmaid/2 groomsmen -- if there's room (garden wedding)
    	jr bridesmaid/flower girls

Although it might make sense to have one of the groomsmen walk
with the jr bridesmaid, the fourth groomsman is 5'4 or 5'5 -- shorter
than the other guys (and groom), who are all over 6'!! I think if
the shorter fellow walks with the little jr bridesmaid (she's short
for her age), he might look more like a jr groomsman or ring bearer!?
Or, instead of having the jr bridesmaid and flower girls walk down
together, I could have them go with their dads (two dads/two girls
each; the fourth niece is only 2 and won't be part of the wedding
party, although we will dress her in the same colors).

    Thanks for any input!
    ---Marlene

PS - in terms of height: me, MOH, and one bridesmaid are 5'2, 5'1,
5'3 respectively; his sister is 5'8".

    Marlene,
Your suggested order is probably fine. You could easily put one of
the groomsmen with the jr. bridesmaid. She would probably get a kick
out of be escorted by an "older" man anyway. Since I would guess that
the flowergirls and their dads will be sitting in one of the first
rows, you could probably just have them come out in order after the
bridal party parents leave. The recessional isn't nearly as formal as
the processional and people mostly just file out in order after the
    main bridal party leave.

I would think that it would be flower girls, junior bridesmaid,
bridesmaids, maid of honor and bride for the processional.

649.4Flower girl(s) just before the brideNECSC::BRASSARDTimes, they are a changin'Thu Apr 10 1997 16:3313
Traditionally the flower girl(s) are the last ones to process before
the bride. IF you want to follow tradition, the order of the proces-
    sional would be:

    	- bridesmaid(s)
    	- junior bridesmaid(s)
    	- maid/matron of honor
    	- flower girl(s)
    	- bride

    Good luck.
