Over the weekend I saw some kind of MST3K "experiment" on the Sci-Fi channel.

They were playing an old "bad" B+W movie, with the familiar shadows of chairs
at the bottom of the screen, but no Tom, Crow or Mike sitting in the chairs.
Instead, they were showing text on the screen that looked like it was being
typed by viewers, possibly dialed up by modem.

It was a similar idea to MTV's Yak, only the text wasn't scrolling, they
just flashed a line or two at a time, along with a "username".

Does anyone know what the deal with this is? I hope this isn't the direction
that MST3K is going to go! It wasn't funny at all. I can come up with better
one-liners than these people were!

78.6real show starts next weekBAGUA::BRENCHTue Jan 28 1997 15:4510
I just caught the first part of the show. The real MST3k starts next
week. The show on last Saturday gave an address for viewers to send
in comments live - not a new mode of operation.

    	Saturdays at 4:00pm I believe.

    		enjoy

afternoon, but I don't know a time yet.

I saw the first episode last saturday. Their comments during the movie were
just as funny as always, but I didn't think the skits they did were quite
as funny.

Also, I didn't like Crow's new voice. He sounds angry.

Was there any explanation for his new voice? Just curious.

Yes. I think the explanation was that he got amnesia. He didn't remember
who he was or Mike + Tom Servo either. I didn't catch *why* he got amnesia
though.

Also, obviously the tall skinny doctor (Trace Bellieau?) is gone, but did
the chubby doctor leave too? I didn't see him at all.

Frank's been gone since Season 7, taken to Sidekick Heaven by Torgo the
    White.

You may not have noticed, but in the Robot Roll Call during the intro
theme, when Crow's introduced, he says "I'm different". He is indeed
different, but I didn't think the voice was that different. I think
    I'll get used to it.

I do like Dr. Bobo and Peanut.

RE the departure of Frank ("the chubby doctor" :-) ), see topic 72 for the
gory details.

78.14Still 'SOL' on getting Sci-Fi ChannelCONSLT::HOLLANDTue Feb 11 1997 13:5912
Alas - I am still Sci-Fi Channel impaired! I have had no luck
w/Greater Media cable (Worcester County) in picking up the Sci-Fi
Channel. SOL is taking on a different meaning when I speak to them!
'They just don't care!....' Has anyone else tried and gotten any
    encouragement?

I have missed a few episodes and am wondering if anyone is willing to
set up a tape pool of sorts? MIssing new episodes is killing me!

    Cheers,

    Tim
