971.0. "Meatloaf" by COMPLX::C_WILLIAMS (Hammer) Wed Sep 15 1993 21:25

Okay, okay, so many of us may not consider Meatloaf a hard rock or
heavy metal man, but fact is "Bat Out of Hell" is almost always on
    the classic rock album lists.

I saw about 10 seconds of a video the other night on MTV and kept
thinking, "Geez, this guy looks familiar". Turned out is was
Meatloaf! The song was pretty mellow, or at least the last few
seconds were, I didn't catch the name of it. The album was called,
"BAT OUT OF HELL, 2". Gee, imagine that.

Has anyone heard this album yet or any of the tracks in their
    entirety? Comments?

I remember the pig, er, sorry, Meatloaf doing another album after
Bat out of Hell ("1", I guess we have to start calling it now). The
album blew chow and didn't sell at all. I assume now he's resorting
to using the old title to help sell. Hey, I wonder if Jim Steinman
wrote the songs for this album too?

I don't know whether I like Meatloaf anymore or not. I still love
Bat out of Hell (1). Remember seeing him in that last Steve Martin
movie where Martin was the evangalist. Meatloaf was the bus driver.
In one scene Steve Martin was driving a pickup truck playing Bat out
of Hell (1). Big plug, ya know?

I thought the new album was called "Back Into Hell" or something like
    that?

I've also seen that video (saw the whole thing). It's like a Beauty
and the Beast/Phantom of the Opera sort of theme to the screenplay. I
don't remember much about the song, it must have been kinda boring.

I heard the new song and thought it was pretty decent. Very reminiscient
of the title track from 'Bat Out Of Hell'. The same sort of changes between
piano ballad and revved-up guitar sections. IMO, if you liked the first one
then you'll like this one (and I liked the first one)....

What was the name of that Steve Martin movie he was in? It only came
out last year. Meatloaf looked in excellent shape compared to the
drug-infested younger years! They should do a "before and after"
video of the guy... "this is your brain on drugs".

Anywho, I'll scope out the album 'cause Bat Out of Hell (1!) is, IMO,
    one great classic.

The new song is called "I Would Do Anything (But I Won't Do That)". The album
version clocks in at almost 12 minutes long....

Well, I saw the entire video last night. I don't know man, it seems
to me that Meatloaf is living off of the past. I mean the song sounded
so much like at least one of the songs off B.O.H.-1 that I kept
thinking that he was screwing the words up. At first listen, I wasn't
impressed. I'd like to hear the entire album though before giving up
    on it.

I have "Bad Attitude" in the car, but forgot to listen to it
this morning, so I'm going to listen to it on the way home.

Supposedly it's someone called "Mrs. Loud"; I don't know who that really is.

Good connection though - Bonnie Tyler had a huge hit with the Jim Steinman
song "Total Eclipse Of The Heart".
