450.0. "Great White" by RDGENG::GREID (When we're in town, Speakers Explode !!) Mon Jan 30 1989 23:03

Here i go starting yet another topic, but again it is
about a band which i have liked since i first bought
    Kerrangs Video Compilation II.

The band are called GREAT WHITE and i am sure they
must be well known by now. I have a version of the
'Once Bitten' album and i have just bought 'Recovery
Live', and the local record shop (LISTEN records for
you locals) has a few import albums by the band.

I have read some concert reviews, and they seem to
be well popular and certainly destined to be fairly
    big.

Any GW fans out there ?? Discography ??

Again, were talking about another excellent group. I have only
one album and thats the once bitten album. I think the most popular
song from that lp is "ROCK ME". I do not hear it too much on the
    radio anymore...oh well...sh*t happens.

I like Great White, I thaught for second that I heard another lp
    from them, but I am not sure.,If I did..it's because a rapped a
tape from my brother.....who's a devoted "heavy metal banger".

    a great band..good blusey sound..

No, I don't think that Great White is a Zepp. clone, they may sound
like zepp. in a few songs but that's all. As for Kingdome Come,
I think the only thing that suggest's that are a Zepp. clone is
that the lead vocalist sounds like Robert plant.

Just like White Snake, doesn't David sound like Robert plant too.

sound like Zepp. a little because of the "plant voice" that's all.

You and Jim (The Drool master) Page musta been doing the same
drugs..(^8 NO WAY do those tunes sound like ZEP...

It's really irritating..Jim Page keeps in all his interviews
..as of late..keeps talking about the "Zep clone" bands.. among
those he mentions are Kingdom Come.. Whitesnake.. Great White.

Imo the only valid "clone" would be KC...but simpily cause fo
the singer dudes voice. Whitesnake imo sounds nothing like Zep..
the bow bit in the vid was more a joke considering the ACTUAL solo
is done with a pick... and I have no idea why he says GW is a
ZEP clone. I think Mr Page ought to have some coffee and wake the

The piece that Vandenberg was miming to was done with a Violin, and

Yeah, they could have been a Zep cover band. I saw GW open for
Twisted Sister and GW covered Zep's "Immigrant Song". Maybe this
has something to do with Page's saying what he did.

I saw a band in FLA a couple of years ago called What on Earth. I
could swear that bleach-headed guy from GW was in that band. They
    were horrible.

The new video "One Bitten, Twice Shy" never really quite takes off.
Anybody else notice that ? I mean, it starts out just guitars
and a little drums, in come the honky tonk keys, and I keep waiting
for all hell to break loose into a rock and roll song - instead
it turns into a radio sing-a-long tune ! Great White ? Nope, I
give 'em fair on this one !

Yeah, Scary, I thought the exact same thing! The original was such a
kick butt tune (its an old Ian Hunter song), that I thought they would
really kick it into high gear. Instead they just sorta glide along into
nowhere land.....

Yech!

For the definitive version, listen to Ian's 'Live at the Club' album....

Ya can't slam dance too it, but it's got as couple of good grooves
in there, can't think of the names of the songs right now. If you
liked "Once Bitten", then you'd probably like "Twice Shy" as well.

'Twice Shy' is a great follow up to 'Once Bitten'. The video to
the first single (the last track on the album) 'Once Bitten, Twice
Shy' has a similar structure to 'Face The Day' off of Once Bitten.
Thsoe guys sure have some nice girlies in the vid, but then i guess
that is only to be expected. I saw the band play as a backing band
in a new fairly new film about a rich girl who gets reduced to being
a house maid to prove her worth.

I keep hearing their new song "Call It Rock & Roll" a lot on the radio
and I hate it. It's like a wicked rip off of "Once Bitten, Twice Shy",
nothing original about it *at all*. What a piece of junk! I've heard
some Great White songs that I do like in the past, but I'd rather not
    ever hear this one again.

It's a real shame because, from the airplay it's currently getting,
it's bound to turn into a "hit" and we'll have to endure it forever
