147.0. "Flotsam and Jetsam" by TIGER::SLABOUNTY (A Momentary Lapse of Reason) Wed Jul 13 1988 18:36

I borrowed 'No Place for Disgrace' last night, and it's
OK. I like the remake of "Saturday Night's all right for
Fighting" (Elton John). "It's 7 o'clock and I wanna mosh,
gonna get a belly full of beer".

I also like 'Hard on You', the dedication to the PMRC.
"WTF, can't we say what we wanna say?".

But they play FAST (too fast at times), which makes it hard
to understand some/most of the words. I'm not sure if I
        like speed/thrash or not.

What other albums do these guys have out?
                                                       Shawn GTI

Note that they are also playing tomorrow
(Thursday) night at the Channel with Wargasm and
                Fates Warning (yeah)!!!

I think their last album was better (Doomsday for
the Deceiver), but the newest is still great.

I must agree with -.1 that Doomsday was better, but this new
one is O.K. too. Everybody thought that after F&J lost Jason Newstead
to Metallica that the band would just hide in a corner and die.
Not so, this is a great album considering that newstead wrote
everything else the band's ever done. Erik A.K.'s vocals are a
bit painful on the ears sometimes, still a good speed band.

I thought too, that the Flots would die after Jason Newstead went
to Metallica, but 'NO PLACE FOR DISGRACE' is one of the best
    Speed-Metal Album I ever heard.

Great show at the Channel the other night. I
can't remember another metal show where I've had
as much fun and the band sounded as good (except
for maybe Manowar). F&J has to be one of the
best sounding live bands around. They sounded
like it was right off the album. Definately
blows Metallica, Anthrax and Megadeth away
                soundwise and live 'abilitywise'.

147.7Yet another review for Flotsam & JetsamMILVAX::RENEELil' SisterWed Sep 14 1988 14:5521
I think both albums kick butt!! They're excellent if you really
feel like annoying discotech-people or just feeling like banging
    your head abruptly...

I cut down on the speed I listened to for a while. Got out of touch
with the speed metal. My buddy intro'd me to the new ballad off
'No Place for Disgrace', called 'Escape from Within'...AWESOME!
I love F&J's ballads anyway. I think 'Saturday Nite' is a riot!!
I can just imagine what EJ would say if he ever heard it!!!!

Yeah, they were a good show. My friend got some EXCELLENT pic's
of the band in action. She got right up on the side of the stage.
Definetly magazine material! We didn't see that much of them though.
They were supposed to go on at 11:45 and they went on at 11:30,
we were in the bar talking to Mikkey Dee, when I realized that they
were on stage! What a freak!!!

Definetly a good show, though. Anyone else go??

If they go more progressive ala where Testament has followed
Metallica, then great! I've been into that a bit more lately,
as long as they don't sound like Metallica. Let's just hope that
'less balls' doesn't come along with 'more progressive.'

I think their new ablum is a flop! I'm really disappointed, I was
really looking forward to this ablum. The vocals kill this whole
album, not one song sticks out. I don't recommend this album at all.
But, if anyone is going to pick it up I'll sell it real cheap. - Kim
147.34BINKLY::MINARDITruth and SoulWed May 16 1990 20:0015
Nah, the fact is that the band has seemed to go the
"progressive/polished" Metallica way of producing and writing, and
they're just not good at it. They are much more successful with
a moshier dirtier sound. The vocals are too "sweet" as if he's
trying to be a Geoff Tate or Bruce Dickinson, and he just doesn't
have it, also the vocals don't go well with the music.
The lyrics are weak, and I was bothered by the use of "f*ck"
for no apparent reason: it didn't go along with the songs because
there was no anger in the songs, so it sounds infantile and
    embarassing when he said it.
Also, the whole album is VANILLA!!! There isn't ONE song with
any noticeable guitar or drum part, the whole album just blends
into one monotonous mish-mash of BLAH.

    /Motorbreath...My opinion

Wading Through The Darkness is getting massive airplay. Heard it 3

This bands drummer is LAME?? Was it a machine or WHAT? Everything
he did sounds like it came out of my R5's 'canned' patterns...

I love the album Cuatro tho... Especially "Double Zero".
