190.0. "Metal Church" by PIWACT::KELLY (I'm so bad...it's a crime..291-9089) Fri Aug 05 1988 18:43

I hope there isnt a topic for Metal Church but I dont think there
is one. Any way what do you like and dislike about MC?

I dont dislike anything about them. They are a band with a lot
of talent. The drummer(for example) is incredible. His style reminds
me a lot of Lars Ulrichs'. The singers voice is incredible..sort
of a mellower Udo Dirksnider (formerly of Accept). And the git
    work speaks for itself.

Unfortunately the lead git has left. There is supposed to be another
album soon. Anyone heard anything about it?

    Good topic Mr.Kelly,

Metal Church is really good.....The first album I have
    God of wrath..In the black..
The drummer is exellent...being a drummer myself he's got
styles I've been working on.the vocals are intense.........

I've seen Metal Church opening for Metallica, a few years ago.
It was during Master's Tour. It was Nice (the closest major
    city) last HM concert.

And MC was really good !
They warmed up the athmosphere for Metallica very well

hearing album 2 was "wimpy". They have vowed to kick tail on their
3rd album. Has it been released yet?

3rd album isn't out, but I personally like the
2nd better than the first. The first only has
two songs that I think are great, the rest don't
do much for me. The 2nd album, the whole thing
is great. I can sit down and listen to the 2nd
all the way through a couple of times, the first,
I shut off after Church and Wrath (two of my
                favorite beach cruising songs).

I donno about that statement. I mean, sure, maybe the guy is a better
singer with more range, etc., but metal church's sound came from that
Chainsaw guitar buzz and the singer's draino-induced voice. I mean,
its like if Accept got Geoff Tate to replace Udo on vocals. Sure, he's
a 1,000 times better singer than Udo, but he just wouldn't fit in that
band...Accept needs (and still needs) that Udo grunge...its what makes
    the band!

RE-1 I agree. Better singers don't make a band better. There is
a "SOUND" that Metal Church had. I may pick up the tape but if
it's not the same singer, then I may give it to my daughter.

190.22Drums, bass and rythm guitarKETJE::VLASIUTry with a bigger hammerTue Nov 28 1989 13:5412
Comparing "The Dark" and "Blessing in Disguise" (different lead vocals
and guitar) I realised that the Metal Church's sound signature is
determined by their excellent drums-bass-rythm guitar combination.
The drummer is very fast (and strong). Even if they changed their lead
vocals and guitar they keep sounding the same original way and have
very strong potential. My only problem is what happens with the
compositions as Kurt Vanderhoof signed also many of them on the new
album, and now he's no more with the group.
I like finally both singers with a preference for the unique voice on
    "The Dark".
    I hope they will succeed.

"Blessing" is a totally bitchin' album. It's pure energy thru and
thru. just check out good sh*t like "Rest in Pieces" or "The Spell
Can't be Broken" the raw intensity of those songs is incredible. I
can't say I've heard any of thier previous stuff, but from what I've
heard, they definetly don't have any problems getting a powerful sound
with thier new line up. "Blessing" is now one of my favorite albums.

190.31The human factorKETJE::VLASIUMon Apr 15 1991 09:4513
"The human factor" shows a progression from "Blessing.." and reflects the
integration of the actual formula. While Kurt Vanderhoof is no more member of
the band, he's signing all the songs and collaborates to the production.
"The human factor" rocks more than "Blessing.." while being heavy as usual.
There are more melodies and choruses and this works fine. Mike Howe sings a bit
like a combination of Udo and Rod Halford and this is fine (still, David Wayne
remains a phenomena). The drumming is less present than usual but the guitar
part (solos) is enhanced. The album is also quite variated and well balanced
with faster and 'slower' songs. I liked the most "Date with poverty", "Betrayal"
and "Agent green" (but they are all 10 good).
Well recommended !

Re. Staynz and Chris

"The dark" contains many of the best songs of Metal Church, but "Blessing.." is
also excellent. "The dark" remains an essential MC album and benefits also of
David Wayne's original voice. Mike Howe is however also a fine singer.
"The human factor", their new album, is musically their most accomplished while
hammering a little less than "Blessing.." (but rocking more).
On "Blessing..", "Fake healer" and "Badlands" are also my favorites (songs
closer to those on the new album).
In any case I like all the 3 MC albums which I have (and all three sound
original). I wonder how it was the first album.

Well, I picked up The Human Factor at Stuart's 1/2 price sale. I
was........ahh....worried about how MC sould sound without David at
vocals. Well, they sound great!! Side one of the tape is excellent.
Side two is good, but not as good as side one. I really love Date With
Poverty and could just imagine how it would sound with David Wayne
singing instead of Mike Howe (who, by the way, does an excellent jod
throughout the tape). Now I have The Dark, Metal Church, and The Human

Re. Chris

After few listenings you'll enjoy all the songs on tHF equally well (second
side of the tape). "Date with poverty" and "Final word" are among the very
best.

If you like tHF, you can go for "Blessing in disguise" also. Mike Howe sings on
it. It's heavier and less melodical than tHF but it remains a strong album.
Just check out "Fake healer". A killer song.

Actually my preference for MC albums is the following:

1. The dark
2. The human factor
3. Blessing in disguise
4. Metal Church (actually only few songs are really top class)
