1092.0. "RaNcId" by POWDML::BUCKLEY (give em the boot!) Tue Aug 22 1995 18:14

Wow! Just did a dir/tit and much to my surprise, NO Rancid note?!

Rancid is a REALLY killer punk/ska band with heavy skinhead overtones.
Their sound is VERY reminiscent of _early_ Clash (this is a good
    thing).

Their new single, Time Bomb, is actually getting a fair amount of
    airplay -- who woulda thought?!

Their new album hits the stores today, 8/22 -- although unlike that
posuer Bobby Torren, I didn't skip work and sleep out in the record
store parking lot to buy a copy (like the new VINCE CD, which we
have YET to see a review of?!). So, lace up yer army boots with white
shoe laces and go down to your local record store and grab a copy!

I've heard a few of their songs and they were excellant.I got a
flash back to 1978 when I heard them. They have a song called
"Salvation" which got a lot of airplay,"Radio" which got zero airplay
and now there's "Timebomb" which I've heard once. The first 2 were all
out punk rock while Timebomb was a ska song and caught me unaware!
Very good stuff and some big mo-hawks too! 8)

Are you kidding? SKA died, thankfully, in the mid-80's and this putrid
band does not sound like the Clash!! Not even remotely! These guys are
boring, unimaginative and trying to get popular like Green Day and
    Offspring.

This band with suffer a very quick death.

Bugger off, the both of you! Thankfully, ian has some *taste*, and
can recognize GOOD music when he hears it. Sadly, this is not a gift
shared by everyone, and your notes clearly prove this point.

Musical styles never die, they just get forgotten for a decade
or so until someone decides to try and revive them.

Aren't these two bands on the same level as Rancid??? Maybe not
as popular as these two, they sure do play at the same level.

        SET FLAME = THERMONUCLEAR

As for Ska, thankfully dead! I could say the same about you!
Doggin' Ska, the mother of slam dancing, is like doggin' Elvis
	or Chuck Berry.

Some people are tunnel visioned, but you, you're blind!!!

	FLAME = OFF

Ska isn't dead, (wish I remembered their name) there's a very
popular band here in the Boston area, that packs in quite a
large crowd every time they play. But mainly because they're
a popular good-times dance band, with horn section. (And no,
    	it's not the mighty-mighty Boss-tones)

I think that the letters Ska are in their name, *****@@##$!
    	sheesh, I can't remember!

Long live Rancid. HMMMMMMMM, More like short lived.

Green Day and Offspring. Maybe if they got regular hair cuts and a
decent wardrobe isted of looking like every mothers nightmare they
    might go farther.

Elvis wasn't that great. Too many fried peanut butter and banana
sandwiches and pills made die on the throne. And for Chuck Berry. Who
    knows what happened to him.

Green Day and Offspring suck too. Rancid can't compete even if Green
    Day and Offspring were good!!

Punk died in '78 with the passing of Sid Vicous. Punk in any form
nowadays is NOT true punk. Even if they look the part and crunch only 2
    chords.

If Ya'll knew punk, you would know it's a state of mind, not a music!
Punk is an anarchist attitude!! Sid Vicious (R.I.P.) was not the only
	epitome of a punk.

They still suck...anyone who thinks Punk is still alive is going
    through a time warp.
God, the Clash is even getting back together for a album and tour...why
cuz they want the money that the 'new punk bands' are getting. Punk, as
was stated is an attitude. Sid died and punk died with him.

    Here end of the lesson.

Punk is like every other musical fad...it will come and go regardless
if Sid Vicious is there or not.To say that punk died the day that Sid
    did is wrong.
As for the Clash making an album and touring...you're right, they're
only in it for the money but so were the Eagles when they re-formed!

A friend let me borrow "And Out Come the Wolves" ... overall, I
have to say I wasn't impressed.

Bad points: Too punkish for me.
Sound alot like Bad Religion, for the most part

Good points: The ska stuff was good.
The bassist is excellent. Check out the bass solo

You've summed it up perfectly -- "too punkish" ... yeah, Green Day
is MUCH better ... not! Billie Joe's "safe" hairdu, rather
conservative clothing/lyrics/antics, etc. -- yeah, I can see why
they are so popular -- they are more like "punk lite".

Rancid roolz cuz they're the first f'ing band in 15 years to exemplify
what PUNK is all about -- if you need to know what that is, listen to
the album and figure it out.

I think it's cool that Rancid is "breaking" right about now. Their

on eMpTyV ... good for them, they deserve it!!
