574.0. "Kik Tracee" by COMET::FRISBYA (Smokin' Monitors) Tue May 21 1991 20:17

               K I K T R A C E E
                  NO RULES

This is the name of a new band but I'll let the inside speak for
    itself.

      Band members:
    Stephen Shareaux-Vocals
    Rob Grad-Bass
    Gregory Hex-Rhythm and Slide Guitar
    Mike Marquis-Lead and Acoustic Guitar
    Johnny Douglas-Drums

    Inside cover-

Kik Tracee has been described as a soul shaking, ball breaking, love
making psycho rock band. That's their sound. That's their philosophy.

It all started when trippy lead vocalist Stephen, whose unusual,
phychotic stage behavior demanded the same of the band he would front,
was introduced to intense bassist Rob and the potent guitar team
of Mike and Gregory. Johnny's thundering flamboyant drum style
was the final element to make the band complete.

Refusing to become another L.A. "strip" band, they instead used the
club scene to build themselves into a solid unit, and quickly
attracted their own following by not being afaid to be different.

As for the name, suffice it to say that Kik Tracee has incredible
live presence. During a rare open rehearsal, some friends stopped
by, and one of the girls got hyper-excited.
"Kick Tracy the hell out of here!" someone yelled, and the name stuck.

Which brings us to the music:very aggessive, with the chord
stuctures and melodies holding alot of tension. It's the
impassioned lyrics and instumentation of their songs that set
Kik Tracee far apart from today's unmusical norm. Dana Stum was
so moved by their music, he produced the album "No Rules." The
first single, "Don't Need Rules," describes everythingthey
represent: they don't need rules-or follow them. Says Dana, "If
you took Living Colour, the Cult and Guns 'n Roses, and put
it in a blender, you might get an idea of what Kik Tracee
sounds like." So put it in and crank it up.

The name of the songs are:

    DON'T NEED RULES
    MRS. ROBINSON(Yes it's the S&G song)
    YOU'RE SO STANGE
    TRASH CITY
    HARD TIME
    BIG WESTERN SKY
    ---------------
    GENERATION EXPRESS
    SOUL SHAKER
    TANGERINE MAN
    LOST
    VELVET CRUSH
    RATTLE SNAKE EYES(STAWBERRY JAM)
    FADE DUNAWAY

                    ENJOY!!

Just picked up this bands No Rules album. It is really hot stuff.
Listening to it gave me the same feeling that I got when I first heard
bands like Extreme, Faith No More, Scatterbrain, etc. Very original
sound with a high standard of lyrics. The music is totally kick-ass and
they deserve to do well with this.

The first half of the album contains the best tracks, such as Need No
Rules, Your So Strange, Trash City and Generation Express. A different
cover of Mrs Robinson the Simon and Garfunkled number is...wellll -
    different !

Not so earth shattering are the numbers Lost and Velvet Crush.

The album is about 55 mins long, so is also good value for money.

I give this debut a big thumbs up and suggest you go out and buy it
right now! What are you waiting for???

Believe it or not, that's actually how they came up with the name for
the band (don't remember where I read that)...

But there was this groupie named Tracee, see, and Tracee was constantly
getting on everyone's nerves, see, so they would say "Kik Tracee out!"

    --Hence the band name...

    Yay Friz.  where did you hear/read that?  That is a real shame if true;
I think there music is rooling! I was expecting to see a major tour
(or at least support act) to promote the album. How come bands as good
as this don't get anywhere and bands like Winger and Warrant can make
it? Does not make sense at all!

I bought the tape right after it came out. Someone told me that it

was supposed to be really good...I listened to it once and threw

How can their label want to drop them if they don't even
let them release more than one song?!

Gaz.....It's called reality of the business.
Kic Tracee is a good band but lack something special.
I know their about to be dropped because the bass player in my band
follows them and he was talking to their record rep. and that's what he
said. Sad but true....They even had a killer video!
Hell....They played in Denver and charged less at the door than us...

They lack something special.....yeah, a NAME. I hate to say it but the
name is Stupid, and the music is nothing short of generic.

I picked this album up at the pawn shop where I got Shotgun Messiah.
I like it - Cindi likes it a LOT... I think it's what everyone in here
sez: Kinda Generic sounding... But they are a good LA type band.

Coop....I found them quite different from the norm.
Weird. I don't like the singer's voice too much though.
Every rock mag in the world are supporting these guys but they still
don't seem to be going anywhere. I'd hat eto be the one paying that
    record company bill.

Yeah, it's in the car now ... I've listened to about 1/2 so far.
It's not bad really, maybe a little better than I'd remembered
    	from the 1st listen.

I was racking my brains trying to figure out who the lead singer
sounds like ... definitely an "odd" voice. I keep thinking he
sounds like the lead singer of DefCon, but I haven't taken that
demo out yet for another listen.

The "Mrs. Robinson" cover is good.

a little like a deeper Axl Rose.

They cover Mrs. Robinson? Ever since Pete mentioned doing a thrash
version of "Sounds Of Silence" I've thought that a thrash version of
Mrs. Robinson would be way cool. I'm sure Kik Tracee's version isn't
thrash, but they probably make it rock at least!

I can just hear the vocals scream "So here's to YOUUU! MRS ROBINSON...

Ken: In Kic Tracee's version that part of the song sounds the same as
when Axl goes "Hey!HEY!...Hey,HEy yea!" in "Knockin' on heaven's door.

     It's a weird cover...

I've been thinking about the Axl similarity, and you're right.
The lead singer sounds alot like Axl when he does "Mr. Brown-
    	stone".

I think we're more alike than not. I like ALOT of poseur stuff,
from Poison to Warrant and others.

But I also like the heavier stuff, like Suicidal Tendencies and
    	Metallica and others.

Listened to about half of 'No Rules' on the way in to work today. Basically,
I think this is a good band with mediocre songwriting and production. I'll
bet they'd be pretty decent live (like a good backup band or something),
but nothing special.

Extra points for their re-make of "Mrs. Robinson". I didn't like it that
much, but at least they re-arranged it to be their own, rather than doing
a note-for-note cover like so many bands do nowadays.

Promising debut, but will they get better or worse?

Does anybody know if they are still together and if anything new is
    gonna be released.

The singer auditioned for Motley Crue when Vince Neil got bombed out
but the lead singer of the Scream got the job, does this mean they have
    split or not.
