All I know is that their first video is out on "What's New"
	 on MTV this week.

	 I wasn't impressed, but then again......you know me! :-)

Are they from Russia? After all, Gorky Park is in Moscow,
	 isn't it?

Gorky Park is one of two big rock "exports" from Russia. I forget the
other "big" Russia band (it's Stas Stalin's band), but I met a few guys
in that band when they were in Boston....they're all 20 years behind
the times, and they play real sophomoric by todays standards. Alot of
Russian rock bands sound like the Beatles, FYI. Their "metal" bands
are kinda lame too, and they sound like your average high school metal
band here in the states (ability and image-wise). Those two bands are
real big in Russian and those circles, but I think they'll have a
difficult time breaking across the boarder.
618.3MARKER::BUCKLEYjust turn back a page...Thu Aug 03 1989 12:543
PS - Why do you think Yngwie sold out 12 straight nights at Russia's
biggest arena?? They can't believe someone can play like that!!
Gawd, here in the states most 17 year olds play like that.
618.4HAZEL::STARRKids flash guitars just like switchbladesThu Aug 03 1989 15:525
Isn't the other big 'export' band called Autograph? (Not to be confused with
the Autograph who did "Turn Up The Radio" - its a different band). They were
the ones that played via satellite for Live-Aid, I believe....

I've seen their video, pretty lame excuse for a video. I suppose
when they become more Americanized, they will be better. They got
potental. So many things have been happening in the Soviet Union
since Gorbachev(sp.) took office. They speak good english..

They're probably going to start out like LOUDNESS,and then
fade away.Remember Loudness started out big. Hey carla, why don't
you want them to become Americanized? Maybe they can teach other
Russian bands how to play Heavy Metal.Oh well,it's going to be a
good show in russia. With Scorpions,Motley Crue,Bon Jovi. Who else
is going to play in it? What are Russian concerts like??

One thing I can't understand is the attitude that if you're
	 not American/British/Australian, you're nothing.

I'd like to see what a Russian group can bring to the Heavy
Metal culture in the US. I, too, hope they never become
	 Americanized. Culture is sooo important...

That makes sense, cuz one thing I noticed about the Russian rock bands
were their LOUSY equipment!! When they come to the states, they rent
everything, of course they don't know how to work it!! The rage is the
low-line Kramer guitars and Arion effects over there. Marshalls are
hard to get in the country. Marshall or Fender is the amp of choice.
618.15Guitar Player ran this last yearCSC32::G_HOUSEI guess I'm just a spud boyFri Aug 04 1989 23:2617
In Guitar Player ran a story on the music scene in Russia around Oct or
Nov 88. They interviewed members of a couple of rock bands, a
classical player, and a jazz player.

The rock players said that getting good equipment was very difficult
(and very expensive). The only way they get quality stuff is on the
black market. Many of the rock bands are not offically government
supported and their shows have to be underground. It's no wonder they
    haven't developed musically.

I haven't heard (or heard of before now) Gorky Park. I'm fairly
certain they were not one of the ones interviewed by Guitar Player.

I thought that was a very interesting article. Gives you a perspective
    on another way of life.

I don't knwo much about this band, but I saw their video the other day on MTV.
Boy was this song lousy! Or, maybe a better word for it is 'boring'. They have
all these musical cliches in there that wouldn't impress the crowd at
Narcissus on a HM night. I don't know how to pinpoint it anymore, until I hear
it again (so I can give examples), but at first listen, I was real
disappointed.

I agree, cat. The song was pretty boring, and the only words that
    I could understand were:
"Bang, Say yea da de da" (or something like that)

But you gotta admit, do you think you would have seen that 10 years
    ago???

They have the song writing talents of a two year old. My
three year old nephew could write a better H_M song. Maybe they
will be a big hit with top 40 persons(morons). There music lacks
good guitar solos and a beat..

I borrowed a promo for a band called Gorky Park....I'm sure
you've all heard *of* them...maybe even seen a vid on Mtv...ya know
    the Russian band.

Well I gave it a listen (5 tunes incld a good cover of the Who's
My Generation)...and was totally impressed. They're different.

They remind me of Tesla in the feel...they have a fresh feel
and sound...unlike the stale leftover Warrant, Winger, dangerous
    Toyz type.

The singer has a good voice...and his English is excellent.
They do a ballad and the harmonies are beautiful.

What I was wondering is....are they planning an American
album or what??? Personally I hope they do... I know I'll buy
it...anyone else have any info or input???

Picked this album up yesterday (for only $9.00!), not too bad for
a first album. They even got some help from Jon Bon Jovi and Ritchie
Sambora on one track, "Peace In Our Time". They also did a cover
of "My Generation", which was...different. If you get past "Bang",
the rest of the album isn't bad, tubular bells and all. Produced
by Bruce Fairbairn, of Bruce Hornsby fame.

Gorky has been in town on a PEACE TOUR for the last week. They stopped
by the studio and rented all of my brothers equipment to practice with
on friday night. The were very nice, they had the band play two songs
for them and they FLIPPED! They wanted tapes to bring back to Russia
and traded autographed Russian maps for them. They loved the band!

Sepultura are one of the best very heavy bands. For me they are up there with
the big names like Slayer, Forbidden, Coroner, Wargasm, Annihilator, Metallica..
and so on. But it's a matter of taste as I've never been a fan of Guns'n Roses,
Bon Jovi, Salty Dog and many others with even bigger names (I don't want to
influence those who have never listened them so I stop the list).
