What was the outcome of the lawsuit against KISS?

They filmed a video in front of a store, and the owner of

Latest update on Sebastian..... Last night at the Springfield Civic
Center Seb through a bottle out into the audience and it hit some
seventeen year old girl in the face. Anyway he got arrested and spent
the night in jail. Anyway he went to court today and got let off on
    10,000 bail.

As I heard it....Someone in the audience threw a bottle on the
stage....which broke and Sebastian just picked up a broken piece
of it and threw back. Dumb move.

I remember a number of concerts where things like bottles and other
"heavy" objects came sailing from the audience onto the stage.
Led Zepplin for one....Bonham got hit off the head and got up and
walked off stage. The same thing happened at a Rush concert.
Geddy finally stopped singing and asked people to stop throwing
    things.

What happened to the security....when I went to see the Crue...they
just about stripped searched me....and I don't look like your basic
    "hell raising" type !!!!

got PO'd about it and Seb threw a bottle back into the

IMO Seb probably did not drink the beer or whatever was in the
bottle... All the shows I have worked the road crew sets the drinks up
either off stage or onstage. Bottled beer is poured into drinking cups
if they happen to drink something that night. Most bands only use
alcohol onstage as a prop. Most if not all cups are filled with water.
I hardly doubt Seb brought the bottle up onstage. There are many bottles
after a show on the ground in front of the stage brought in by the
    crowd.

    Again just MHO...

Is it something about Aerosmith shows that there is always a big
    drinking incident?

When I saw them in '87 on NYE, there was some guy who looked like he
had been dead for about 7 years, and on top of that he was so hammered
he couldn't even stand up. The guy standing next to him was cool about
it, and tried to help him, but then the guy wandered out into the aisle
and fell down the stairs, only to be collected by security.

    It's ridiculous.

Or he could be like Jaymz Hetfield and scream "STOP THROWING FU**ING
    S**T AT ME!!!!"

About Seb, it's too bad that happened. When you're freaking out
onstage it's hard to keep your wits about you, and he just got out of
control. He should still get the fine, but he's no more an a$$ than
JBJ would be if he did it. Seb's a prick anyway.

I saw Asmith at the Boston Rathole back in `75 on their Toys tour. I
don't know how wasted the band was, but Joe Perry was layin into this
mega-blues lead, doin the Chuck Berry backwards duck-walk thing.
Anyways, this guy in the front row reaches out and yanks Joe's leg out
from under him, landing him and his guitar on the floor! Joe then
stands up, and proceeded to wing his black Les Paul Custom over the
guy's head!! Security dragged the guy outta the arena, with everyone
kicking him as they dragged him down the aisle!

I never heard of Joe landing in jail for assault, or the guy filing
charges over that one...guess times have changed, huh?

But then again, that was when concert goers consisted of bikers, rock
musicians, and druggies...all in their 20s/30s. It was rare in those
days to see a teenager there! Now, its a totally different story!

    Okay, Vince is a jerk?

Would you have told the court "no no no, have no mercy on me, don't
let me get out of this for a measly million and a half dollars, I
don't deserve that, just throw me in jail for 15-20 years!"

If you were to look at the many publicized cases against famous/rich
people in the last few years, you'd see that more often than not, they
are made examples of, and got harsher sentences than non-celebs,
because they are so high profile. I don't agree with you at all.

NOW... you want to talk about people getting off easy because
they are involved in politics/the justice system.... that's a different
story... or how about how many women get mercy from police on
driving infractions because of their sex... etc. etc. etc.

I've done things that were out-of-control, and regretted it,
celebrities are no more angelic than you or I.
I appreciated Vince's Rockers Against Drugs commercial, and
the clean lifestyle he tries to live now.

594.41I think your reply is a pretty harsh sentence 8^)CSC32::G_HOUSESoul on IceThu Jan 04 1990 18:3036
    >Okay, Vince is a jerk?

I always thought he was a jerk, regardless of whatever happened with
his trial and all that. The reply I was responding to basically said
"Nobody thought Vince was a jerk for maliciously throwing stuff into
the crowd at a show". I consider that sort of action inappropriate for
*any* performer. Perhaps his personal life is different, I don't know
him personally. His personal life is none of my business.

    >Would you have told the court "no no no, have no mercy on me, don't
    >let me get out of this for a measly million and a half dollars, I
    >don't deserve that, just throw me in jail for 15-20 years!"

Is that a direct quote? Quite honestly, I never heard any of the
    details of his trial.

I just know that he was convicted of felony drunk driving and
manslaughter and spent a maximum of a few months in jail. How long
would you be in jail if you killed someone while driving intoxicated?

    >	If you were to look at the many publicized cases against famous/rich
    >people in the last few years, you'd see that more often than not, they
    >are made examples of, and got harsher sentences than non-celebs,
    >because they are so high profile. I don't agree with you at all.

I have never heard of a major celebrity receiving a long term jail
sentence even though they might have performed some crime which anyone
else would have gotten at least 3-5 years for. Drug busts happen quite
often to people in the music industry (probably because the practically
advertize their heavy use of them) and they get off by playing a
charity show or with a fine. Hardly what I'd call a harsh sentence.

Maybe a couple of examples of these abnormally harsh sentences would
    clarify this situation for me.

Zsa Zsa didn't get off... Stacy Keach spent a lot time in jail
for drug charges...granted it wasn't in the U.S.
I also remember a segment on just this subject on the Today show,
where it was stated that, on the average, famous/rich people actually
got harsher sentences than the average person, since judges knew
they were high-profile cases that would draw attention to them, and
also to make examples of them.

Paul got busted in Japan - I don't remember the exact city (Tokyo?)....

There seems to evidence on both sides, I guess. Keith Richards was convicted
of possession of herion in Canada, and only had to do a benefit concert to get
out of it.

Although the guy from Motley Crue got off light, the same may have happened to
anyone with a previously clean driving and arrest record. Its pretty rare to
see them throw some yuppie in jail just because he f***ed up once like that -
usually its detox for a while, suspension of license, and a fine.

I saw a show recently and don't remember what it was. I think it might
have been a bit of MTV news where they interviewed several people
involved in the entertainment industry (not the celebs themselves, but
agents or something like that) who basically said that it was *very*
common for celebreties to get off when having committed crimes. They
added that the gross majority of these never come to press.

They gave a bunch of examples too...

I know this is pretty ambiguous since I can't remember the source or a
lot of the details. Sorry about that, but it seemed pretty convincing
at the time. Perhaps someone else saw it and could add more details.

I think it will without a doubt be one of the biggest obfuscationss of
justice if they win. The whole case seems to be based on an assumption
that music was at fault. if I have facts strait the kid was either
drunk or on drugs, as many in here can contest, drinking tends to
confuse our thought process. Therefor if he was drunk, could a lawsuit

UK Death Metal band Carcass are at the centre of a bizarre instance of
    graverobbery in Atlanta, Georgia.

Three men, Scott robert (20, Sidney Harrison Tullis (19) and Rober
Frank Simmons (22), have been charged with felony offences of
'vandalism of a place of worship' and 'maliscious removal of the
contents of a grave' following an incident at Luxomni Cemetery, Lilburn
    in Atlanta.

The men allegedly celebrated Allen's birthday by drinking beer and
listening to Liverpool based Carcass' "Symphonies of Sickness" opus.

On hearing the track "Exhume to consume", the three allegedly adjourned
to the cemetery for what Allen described as 'some spooks and some
    laughs'.

Allen told the Atlanta Constitution newspaper: Sid started digging upa
grave. I said I didn't want anything to do with it, but they started
threatening me and my girlfriend and they had shovels in their hands.

I was in a bad spot. I didn't know whether to run for it because my
girlfriend might get hurt, so I just sat down."

The grave the men disturbed belonged to Nola Mae K McCart who died in
    1987 aged 69.

Allen was freed on a $2,100 bail bond, while Simmons and Tullis were
still being held by police pending receipt of similar bonds.

Allen claimed he would write to the deceased family and apologise, and
continued: My brother died last year, and if it had happened to my
brother, I would have been very upset."

Carcass offered "no comment" on the story, but Steve Martin of the
band's US distributors Important claimed that all members of the band
were vegetarian and that "their extreme lyrics satarise the consumption
    of all meat".

The Cult is being sued by a Sioux Indian for the band's use of
his picture on their "Ceremony" album. Apparently, the band
also used his picture in the video for "Wild Hearted Son", dep-
icting a "burning" of the picture in the video, signifying the
    	death of the kid.

I think the suit is for $6M.

The kid saw his picture in flames on the T.V. screen and freak out.
His parents are suing the label, the photographer and the band.

     Ian says "it's nonsense".

$6M is alot of money for The Cult to be paying but I think
    they'll win this battle.

Surely the powers that be weren't stupid enough to be putting this
kids face on millions of album covers and in videos without prior
consent via the proper legal documents ... get a grip!!

Eugene, Oregon:

A convenience-store clerk who survived a vicious
beating during a 1994 robbery has filed an $11 million
lawsuit alleging that so-called "death metal" music
drove her assailants to violence.

Donna Ream is suing the bands Deicide and Cannibal
Corpse; the bands' record and distribution companies,
including EMI, Virgin Songs Incorporated and Sony Music
Distribution. Ream's lawsuit also names Record Garden,
a Eugene shop where some of the music was purchased.

The lyrics of death metal graphically describe acts of
murder, mutilation and torture. The lawsuit claims the
men who killed Francis Wall and assaulted Ream listened
to the music just before entering the store.

One man is on death row for the murder conviction.

Well, I'm at least glad that defense lawyers are laying off blaming
Twinkies. Don't know what I'd do if they had to pull Twinkies off the
    shelves.

    ;-)

I hope that some day some Heavy Metal band turns around and countersues the
bejeesus off people doing these kind of lawsuits. I think these
people (and people in general) need to have some kind of "risk" to
think about before entering these lawsuits. As far as I'm concerned,
    it's harrassment.

I mean, I have sympathy for their loss, but I have to believe that all
they are trying to do is make money off it, not retribution or
    correction.

I read about those two kids who shot themselves after listening to
Judas priest and I have only this to say about their parents:

Hannibal Lector... Better parent then these kids had

These folks abused and neglected those kids for years (documented court
evidence) and when they finally couldn't take anymore and decided to
end it all, the parents try to make a quick buck off it by blaming
heavy metal music for the results of the parental attrocities they
    committed.

    One last word: Sheesh!!!!!!!!
