232.0. "Bonfire" by CSC32::G_HOUSE (Back in Black) Tue Sep 13 1988 16:55

Has anyone out there ever heard of a band called Bonfire? They
are supposed to be from Germany and very heavy (I got this
    thirdhand...).

The local (Co. Springs) band Hydra are opening for them on Sunday
and I was wondering what this band was like.

    Here I is, Shawn! 8*)

Bonfire, from Germany, have two albums out: _Don't Touch The
Light_ and _Fireworks_. The latter came out about 4 months ago and
the former a year or two back.
Heavy sound? Definately. They are produced by Dieter Dierks
(a G-String to the first person who can identify this man!), and
definately have flavors of the Scorpions (oops, I gave it away).
The lead vocalist sounds like Klaus, but minus the screech and plus
control and smoothness. All in the band, in a studio setting at
least, are more than competent Rock-n-Rollers.
Some songs to listen for: "Starin' Eyes", "No More", "Hot to
Rock", "Don't Touch The Light", "Never Again" (which is on both
    albums for some strange reason...).
I would LOVE to see these guys.. I hope they come to Cincinnati
when I get back down there. (Alas, I too must leave for school at
the end of the week - g'day to all, and thanks for a GREAT conference.
I'll really miss all the great information I get here!)

Thanks! I think I'll check 'em out.

I'll take that G string, anyway! Deiter Dirks produced a lot of the
old Scorpions albums. I knew it before you gave it away. BTW: They
    hated him.

I saw BonFire during ZZ TOP AfterBurner Tour in France. Bonfire opened
for ZZ Top, and they were ok. Maybe they wanted to look like Scorpions
too much IMO. Definitively Heavy Metal !!

I've got FIRE WORKS (and it does). Its pretty good, and is *very*
similar to the Scorpions. Bonfire played at our local Festival,
along with Meat Loaf and some others.

I don't know why the Scorps hate D.D. cuz he still produces their
albums. He's also responsible for the great sound on Accept's Metal
    Heart album!!

232.8ScorpsCSC32::G_HOUSEBack in BlackWed Sep 14 1988 17:5810
I thought the last two Scorps were produced by someone else. I
read an interview with them about a year or so ago and they were
badmouthing Deiter and saying they finally got outta their airtight
contract with him. I'll have to look for it, I think it was in
    one of the guitar rags.

...or maybe I was just in the twilight zone, that seems to be happening
    a lot lately.

232.9Anyone know German?RICKS::UPHAMWed Sep 14 1988 19:029

The credits on my Savage Amusment album say "Also very special
thanks to Dieter Dierks for being on duty 24 hours a day".
I don't know how that translates to German, but it doesn't seem
like they hate him too much.

Yo Greg, how were they? I hadta keep the devil puppy from wrecking

drink? I wanna know what I missed.

    re: the last few

I must have been wrong, or else they got their differences resolved.
I thought for sure that was what I read. Sorry about that.

    re: Bonfire

Well, I went to the show last night. Here's the scoop.

Hydra sounded very good, despite not getting much of a soundcheck and a
couple of technical problems (keyboards went belly up mid-set, they got
'em working a couple of songs later without much interruption). My
friend told me (at 19:30) that they'd been there since 13:30 waiting to
do one. They said Bonfire did a *5 HOUR* soundcheck. Hydra was just
starting theirs at 19:00 when I got there... From the two times I've
seen them, they seem very consistant and tight. Definately thumbs
    up.

Bonfire had a really good sound. They struck me as a kind of pop metal
type band with an edge, pretty melodic. The two guitarists played a
lot of harmonized lines, some pretty tough, kinda like Racer X, but a
different musical format. They both had a great guitar tone (whaddaya
*expect* after a (*&(* 5 hour soundcheck...). There were no visible
amps on stage, I would like to know what kind of equipment setup they
were using. One guy, his name was Angel something, played ESPs and the
other, sorry didn't catch his name, played Kramers. Mr Kramer did most
of the solos and played pretty tastefully, Mr ESP did some nice solos
    too, lots of taps.

The singer had a good voice and seemed pretty charasmatic. They seemed
to be used to playing on a larger stage, as they kept bumping into each
other the first few numbers. Their show was pretty short, a little
over an hour, although I left after the first encore and don't know if
there were any more. All in all a good sounding band. This was my
first exposure to them. More for the less heavy type fans rather than
    the true headbanger though.

	Some news....

I heard that Bonfire has come out with a new release called
"Knock Out" (I believe). I think that it was *just* released.
I have not yet seen it here in the good ole US yet. One of their
other albums was very good I thought. I can't remember if the
one I liked was 'Fireworks' or 'Don't Touch the Light'. I think
it is 'Fireworks' (The one with the plain cover is the one I like).
Anyway, they are signed to RCA records, and the song from Shocker
was called "Sword and Stone" (Once again I believe). It is a good
song, and I wish I had seen the video... Anyway I will keep my
eyes open for it, and I'll give you my opinion (If anyone cares).

						-Seth/HMBP-RF-TOSA!!!

BTW Shocker was a good movie.... It would be cool to be able
	    to dive into T.V.s... 8)

Natick, Marlboro(Mass) area doesn't get all the current stuff. I have
looked a lot and the only two I have *ever* seen are 'Fireworks'
