1154.0. "Stump, Joe" by BUSY::SLABOUNTY (A Parting Shot in the Dark) Fri May 31 1996 20:15

Hmmm, it appears that I never started a note on this guy.
I must've talked about him in some sort of a guitar instr-
umental note or something, because I know I've mentioned
    	him somewhere.

Anyways, he now has 3 albums out:

    	"Guitar Dominance"
    	"Night of the Living Shred"
    	"Supersonic Shred Machine"

I just picked up the latest 1 last week [coincidentally, it
just came out last week] ... as the album titles seem to
indicate, he is a shredder, and plays all instrumental music.

Listened to it this morning, and strangely enough, the best
song [IMO] on the album is 99% shred-free and is called "Back-
stabber". Almost a "heavy blues" sound to it ... a really
    	nice groove to this song.

For guitar fans, check him out. For shred fans, buy all of
his albums and you won't be disappointed.

stumps latest reviewed in Guitar magazine. really had him as a shred
monster, speed demon." stump's frightening superspeed playing on his
third album is truly impressive, as he ranges from pure yngwie-derived
classical overload to Ritchie Blackmore and Jim Hendrix dedications to
    two moody solo pieces"

    	sounds good!

All I can think of when I hear that name is "Stumpy Joe" from
    the Spinal Tap movie!

Yngiwie and Ritchie Blackmore though.... sounds good!

"Stump" is Joe's actual last name. I knew him back at Berklee.
He was a "gary moore" disciple but had started to get into Yngwie.
He was also as bald as an egg! Aren't wigs wonderful?

apparently Joe is now teaching at Berklee according to the article in
    guitar magazine.

Shredder Joe Stump will be performing tonight at the Living Room
in Providence, RI. Joe's new band includes other Berklee musicians,
as well as male castrata tenor extrordinaire Brian Sarvella on vocals.

Check it out if you want.
