1135.0. "Victor" by ICS::CLELAND (GPS Eastern Sites) Wed Mar 13 1996 13:21

    	Metronome Madness - Brian O. February issue

    	Alex Lifeson's solo project.

    	Rush is on hiatus for awhile, recharging the batteries. But
    	in the meantime Alex has hooked up with I MOTHER EARTH drummer
    	EDWIN, and some friends and put together a killer solo debut.

    	I admit, I was leary when I saw this new disc come across
    	my desk, just an album's worth of filler, but oh contraire!

    	Lifeson wrote some lingering songs that allow him to stretch
    	out in a dimension beyond Rush. I'm not saying it's better than
    	Rush, and his lyrics aren't as interesting as Neil Peart's, but
    	this guy put some serious effort (his guitar playing is awesome)
    	into this recording and it shows!

    	So until Lee, Lifeson and Peart release a new sonata, I'll bask
    	in the elctrically charged buzz of Victor.

    	Oh, and make sure you listen to track three: Start Today.
    	Sounds like Geddy Lee on vocals, eh? The album gives credit
    	to EMI Electrola (Germany) recording artist DalBello.

    	Will we ever know?

    It isn't too bad....Les Claypool plays bass on one track only (he
    should have played on the entire album! Now that woulda been cool!)

    Somewhat different than what I expected from him, especially the lyrics
    to the first song. I haven't listened to it entirely from start to
    finish yet, got most of the way through a couple days ago. I thought
    the song with the girls griping and then "just shut up and play the
    guitar" song was rather funny. Some decent guitar work though, and he
    is one of my more favorites from waaaaaaaaaaay back (along with Robin
    Trower).

    I thought Edwin was the singer, not drummer...

1135.3I think he sings onlySUBSYS::MSOUCYThu Mar 14 1996 09:237

    I believe (if I remember what I read on the liner) he is only singing
    on the album. Alex has others playing bass, etc....throughout the disc.
    But I believe the drummer is pretty constant through the disc. Have to
    read it again....

    	The photo of the band is quite interesting, the four members
    	standing together, with Alex behind Blake Manning. Instead
    	of Alex out in front as one would expect.

    	The names are:

    	Bill Bell
    	Edwin
    	Alex Lifeson
    	Blake Manning

    	Though I don't know who plays what...
1135.5I Mother Earth?ICS::CLELANDGPS Eastern SitesFri Mar 15 1996 08:163
    	Well, uh, der, Alex plays guitar, the article states Edwin
    	is a former member of I Mother Earth, percussion no less.

1135.6I checked the liner notes...POLAR::LYLEfuzzy-wuzzy wasn't fuzzy.... was he???Mon Mar 18 1996 02:026

    Something must be amiss in that article. Edwin is definatly the singer
    for I Mother Earth. And I don't think he is a former member either. The
    band has a new disk coming our soon.

1135.7Not beyond errorNQOS01::nqsrv345.nqo.dec.com::clelandask question now, smack foreheadMon Mar 18 1996 13:1911
	Well, Metronome is a local rag, I would be willing
	to say they are capable of errors.

	And this is just a solo project for Alex, he'll
	be returning to Rush after the "batteries are recharged".

	So the other members would surely return to their
	regular gigs.

	I don't have any discs from I MOTHER EARTH, can't
	verify who Edwin is...
