1122.0. "Noise Addict" by CAREER::MULHOLLEN (this behaviors not unique) Tue Jan 16 1996 18:00

introducing... another teenage band from australia that may
interest some of you... Noise Addict. the band has an EP
and just released a new LP a couple weeks ago. fronted by
15 year old singer/songwriter phenom ben lee, the band may
take off among the younger genre of fans of 'alternative?'
music, if there is still such a thing. here is the current
     line up of the band...

ben lee - vocals, other guitars
daniel kohn - bass, backing vocals
doron kalinko - guitars, all wanky bits (?)
saul smith - drums, percussion, bass

     here are the available releases...

noise addict - young & jaded (EP)
noise addict - meet the real you (LP)
ben lee - grandpa would (solo LP) [eesh, he's 15!]

my 15 year old brother got me into ben lee's solo LP last
summer while he was visiting me... that album is mostly
acoustic, so is the noise EP. the new noise LP however is
a full blown album with electric guitar and drums... and
some of it makes a lot of noise. fairly short songs, most
are of the 2-3 minute, with a few 5'ers. but with 14 songs
on the LP, it lasts almost 40 minutes. i like it. ben lee's
solo effort is the same way... 14-16 tracks of the 2-3
minute variety. warning, their youth shows in the music,
but not any worse than silverchairs does...

to compare them with someone else isn't too hard, they have
     the lemonheads->dino jr.->smashing pumpkins->matthew sweet
type of sound as far as i can tell... they definitely aren't
silverchair by any means. and because of their different
sound, i don't believe silverchair opened any doors for them.

they are playing at the middle east (down) tonight too...

if you see the LP for sale anywhere, and you like the other
bands i mentioned... give'em a chance... you never know.

     later,

     /brian

ps - after re-reading this, maybe i should have posted it
in radio_radio...? ah, you all have open minds, right?
