1110.0. "Renee Quebec" by KDX200::COOPER (You're Aunty ...Aunty social!) Thu Nov 16 1995 12:04

Anyone here remember Renee Quebec?

Well, sad news. Renee has cancer. A mutual friend got a letter from her
this week. It's Hodgkins Disease. That's one of those cancers that affect
the lymph nodes. She's already had surgery to have her spleen removed...
had several other things done too but can't remember specifically what those
procedures were. She's getting ready to start 6 months of chemotherapy...and
then 2 months of radiation treatment. Her letter sounded really optimistic.
Thought that you folks who know her should know...etc...

If it's any consolation, my wife's sister had it when she was 16. Back then the
treatment was radiation (if I remember right). She recovered and is doing fine
now over 15 years later.

So this cancer is treatable and not necessarily bad news.

I hope Renee is as fortunate

It certainly seems to be a common ailment lately.

My wife was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's, she'll be starting
her radiation therapy in a few weeks.

Although it _is_ cancer, and not something to be taken lightly, it
is probably _the_ most treatable cancer. The cure rate for Hodgkin's
is about 90%. Unfortunately, the treatment is not pleasant, and is
    dangerous itself.

    Best wishes for Renee.

    We hope so too.

As I understand it, the pronosis is very good. I just watched a
pal go thru the radiation though, and it's no picnic and has some
real nasty side effects...some are life-long too.

    FYI -

    I'm tracking down a up-to-date mailing address for Renee - I'm sure
she'd love to get some cards and such...

    Coop,

If Renee has access to the WWW, there's a page dedicated to Hodgkin's
    at http://www.dircon.co.uk/adastra/amanda/amanda1.html

The page is maintained by a nurse in England, who is currently being
treated for Hodgkin's. There's a lot of good information there, that
all Hodgkin's patients should have access to.
