978.0. "Cathedral" by BUSY::SLABOUNTY (Whose Line Is It Anyway?) Mon Oct 18 1993 10:15

    	Has anyone heard these guys yet?

    	It was late, and I happened to flip past the HBB when they
    	were on, so I don't remember too much about them but I do
    	remember that I liked them.

    	Anyone else?

    It`s actually Lee Dorian,ex-Napalm Death who is singer.

    The video is inspired by the Black Saabarf 'Paranoid' video,apparently.

    	The song is called "Midnight Mountain", and it's on "The
    	Ethereal Mirror".

    	I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, but it's not
    	too bad. They sound like White Zombie at times.

    Tranalation:

    Ian recently viewed a music video performance on the television
    by the band "Cathedral". Ian thought it was "bollocks", which
    loosely translates to BALLS (testicles).

    Now the confusing part of this colloquilism (BALLS) is that in the
    mid-western area of the United States, BALLS (used as a transitive) may
    indicate approval, and even in some cases, total buy off.

    However, I feel qualified (due to my Scottish heritage) to interject
    that Ian feels that Cathedral "Inhales", and testicles have little to
    do with it (except perhaps the lack thereof).

    Is that better? Did I translate well, Ian??
    ;-)

    It`s an amusing thing to note that in British speak,when you say
    "It`s the dogs bollocks" that means it`s really good.

    Ie,if ian said "Cathedral is the dog`s bollocks" that means it`s
    excellent.

    However,as he said "Cathedral is bollocks" that means it`s shite.

    Is that clear?

    	Well, I listened to it on the way in this morning.

    	Alright, so it isn't the best album in the world ... but it isn't
    	the worst, either.  I don't think.  8^)

    	Heck, at least I only paid $13 for it so I could listen to "Mid-
    	night Mountain" over and over again. 8^)

978.22good stuff! The Carnival Bizarre is newest!!SUBSYS::MSOUCYTue Oct 24 1995 16:4918

    You don't like them!? I picked up The Ethereal Mirror and loved it
    after listening to it about 4-5 times....took a bit to grow with
    Dorrians vocals. I termed these guys DOOM metal on that album, and even
    more so on The forest of equilibrium (VERY SLOW/HEAVY) and Soul
    Sacrifice (an EP of that title I have on tape) is like half-speed than
    the tape version! I don't like FoE as much as TEM, but I picked up
    there EP from last year and it is more rockin like Sabbath, kinda goofy
    lyrics on part of one song, sort of rappy a bit but just as minor
    overtones I guess. I also just picked up The Carnival Bizarre,
    excellent artwork a-la The Ethereal Mirror, actually, all of theres is
    like this for artwork! This is the type of music I get into when I am
    in the mood for it! Head banging, doomy/gloomy, heavy! The last sounds
    sort of sabbath-like too! Grind, Grind, Grind! Ooowaaaahh! (dorrian
    growl!).

978.23LUDWIG::LUCHTIs it a passion or just a profession?Fri Dec 15 1995 07:017

    Tony Iommi recorded 10 or 12 different solos for this band to
    be used on their latest release as they wish.

    Must be nice,

978.24Hmm, I'll have to check the liner now!SUBSYS::MSOUCYFri Dec 15 1995 09:217

    So you are saying that Tony played/was used in their lead riffs on the
    latest "The Carnival Bizzare"? Kicking album though, I like most of it,
    especially the first 3-4 tracks!

978.26BUSY::SLABOUNTYCandy'O, I need you ...Fri Dec 15 1995 10:535

    	Not sure that I'm overly impressed with a band who's going to
    	write 10-12 songs around guitar solos that are already record-
    	ed.

978.27LUDWIG::LUCHTIs it a passion or just a profession?Thu Dec 21 1995 20:437

    I should have been more clear...Tony recorded different solos
    to be used on ONE tune of their new CD...the band decided which
    one to use I guess.
