977.0. "Zappa, Dweezil ['Z']" by AYOV25::JFOSTER () Fri Oct 15 1993 14:50

anyone have news/views/transcriptions(guitar) for dweezil zappa stuff
    shampoo horn/confessions etc..

i saw "Z" live in glasgow scotland in july. they played a 20 minute
cover song where there were about 200 'mini songs' within it ranging
from metallica to the bee gees with no pauses, each running perfectly
    into the other.

    superb

    jim.

ps. anyone who saw this show, did ahmet do the 'praise the raven bit?'

977.1dude,check out my soloAYOV25::JFOSTERThu Nov 04 1993 08:1315
has no-one heard the Confessions lp by dweez. it has an amazing track
at the end of the cd, (son of shugagugagunga) with two "dudes" jamming
and playing like beck, satriani, joe perry (at a carnival) and a good
impression of Dave Lee Roth (ah furgot the f*ckin' words man).

a bit like bill and ted in wyld stallyne (who are these dudes anyway)

anyway, did you know that 'Van Halen taught Beck everything he
    knows':-).

    the gutar playing is brilliant.

    dude, check out my solo,

    jim..

    re. 1.

Eddie was still in diapers when Beck taught the whole world how to
play. Ask Eddie who his influences are??? You're just kidding when you
    made that statement, right???

977.4dinner with the alien!!AYOV25::JFOSTERThu Nov 04 1993 13:1929
    stig,

just kidding, this dweezil song is one long hoot about guys who play
guitar for all the wrong reasons...and are pretty dim to boot. this was
only a line from the song (one dude says)

'eddie van halen taught beck evrythin he knows - so my friend told
    me'

    other classics include

'whoa, check me out dude, i'm doing satriani' (soloing ala surfin
    							w.alien)

'whatareyou, havin dinner with the alien?' replies the other dude :-)

...try to get a copy of Confessions by Dweezil Zappa, play the last
track, there is a long pause, then dweezil plays some seriously shredding
guitar solos while the vocal duet do a "yo dude" type thing.

ps, the cd was co-produced by nuno bettencourt and features the old
beegees song "stayin alive" with Donny Osmond singing (it was meant to
be Ozzy but he cancelled last minute), warren dimartini
(ratt), nuno, dweez, zakk wylde and another guy (whose solo is the
    best) soloing.

    sorry for the confusion

    jim.

sounds like Zappa-ish material to me...i sort of knew something was up.
didn't mean to be so...ya know. i'm just a lover of the pioneer
guitarists of rock and Frank Zappa is on that list as far as guitar
    playing...

i think dweezil is carrying on the zappa tradition for weirdness and
his brother probably should be removed from society...if you had seen
the live show you'd know what i mean.

Does anyone have a discography for Dweezil Zappa?

    	I have:

"My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama"
    	"Havin' a Bad Day"

And is 'Z' a band of his ... maybe with his brother[s] on it
    	also?

Z is definitely a band with Dweezil and Ahmet Zappa.

Looks like I'll have to look for "Confessions" by Zappa and
    	"Shampoo[something]" by Z.

I did find a little bit on the web on Dweezil, but not much.
And I didn't look too far, either, so there could be more.

He played co-lead guitar on "Chewing On Crayons" on Blues
    	Saraceno's "Hairpick" album. Great duet!!

New Z album out ... "Songs for Pets".

Newbury Comics has it on their web page, so there's a good chance
    	they stock it.

    	I'll probably pick it up.
