875.0. "Helmet" by COMET::FRISBYA (Uncle Salty) Mon Sep 21 1992 20:25

What do you think of these guys?
Their new song and video is "UN SUNG"...I don't like it much but I'm
sure some will like it. It's a mix of Thrash and grunge...
The label that signed them must be REAL big on them since they signed a
    million dollar contract with them.

Apparently, from the talk in Radio_Radio, they used to be more
grunge/hardcore sounding and their sound sorta changed to a more metal
sound when they got on a big label. Their current album is the first
    on the new label.

I saw them on MTV a couple of days ago...Kind of reminded me of the
old Punk bands that were so heavy the drew Punk Fans and Metal Heads
alike at there shows..like Black Flag and the rest.

I dunno, the guitars sounded like they were mike-ing one of those Rock-
Man headphone amps I used to have when I was a kid...

I heard 1 song by these guys the other night, and it had a good
grove to it. Not sure which song, though. "Choppy" vocals,
driving bass. Don't remember the lead work, if there was any.

Not sure if I'll get the album, but I might.

A friend made me a copy of Meantime not long ago and all I have to say
is that these guys RIP! Roolin tone and overall sound! An amazing
    amount of energy.

I saw a video of theirs on MTV last week and it was ok, pretty much the
standard "empty warehouse" performance with just the band. Not real
eventful, but the song is great!

    Ian,

If you like that song, you'll like the rest of the album. It's not my
favorite on there, but it is representative.

    	[Better late than never 8^)]

"Betty" is along the same lines as "Meantime", but IMO it is
more refined. Not to say it doesn't kick, but maybe they got
some more recording/mixing time for this one, ya know?

I also picked up "Strap It On", and listened to most of it
last week. Greg, this one is more along the lines of "Mean-
time", maybe even a little less refined. I'm pretty sure
you'd like it. I'll have to stick it in the car one of these
days to give it a REAL listen, and then I'll have a better
    	opinion.
