692.0. "Mystery Jones" by NEMAIL::MERCIER (I will Choose Freewill) Fri Jan 17 1992 11:46

Has anybody ever seen the Boston based band....Mystery Jones..?
These guys are hot. There style of music is Heavy Funk Rock. All
of the musicians are exceptional. I know the drummer of the
group pretty well. (Dave Dicenso) Its worth going to even
watch him play...He is an unbelievable drummer. I highly
    reccomend checking these guys out.

Mystery Jones roolz! I have their demo (roolin) and have watched
them rehearse (they rehearse at the same place the Bunnies do).
They're really tight and very musically talented, with some very
catchy/funky tunz to boot. Check this band out!

Mystery Jones has a new demo out, songs on it are Queen Samantha,
Mr. Cannibal, Uncle Willy, World, and Tiny Little Cretin. They now
play world much slower, more acoustic than before. Tiny Little
Cretin is a beautiful song, my favorite along with Mr. Cannibal....

They will be playing Friday night (Nov. 19th) at TT the Bear's with
    Godspeed and Moodcrush...

DISCLAIMER: This is not a "commercial" post. Neither I nor the
band stand to make any money from this article. It is intended to
be informational...in other words, I'm just trying to spread the word
about a great band.

There is a great band, mostly local to the Boston area, called
Mystery Jones.

"Hooks, grooves, harmonies, dynamics, flare, passion, melodic
 solos, natural musical ability..."
			--Rick Schettino
			  New England PERFORMER, June 1993

"Definitely the highest energy live performance I've seen in
 quite a while."
			--Amy Silberman
			  The NOISE, July 1992

"...very unlike the average "clone" band in todays club scene...three
part harmonies that are reminiscent of the early Motown greats...KICK
ASS grooves...always fresh and spontaneous...intuitive rhythm section
that at times seems to be telepathically linked...masterful display
 of rhythmic interplay."
			--Kim Che and Robert Dragonas
			  ROCK RAG, January 10 - February 28, 1993

Their music is hard to pigeonhole, since it draws from many different
areas of rock music. There are elements of hard rock, metal, funk,
and progressive rock, among other things.

They have been playing together for almost four years and are not yet
signed to a label, but they are shopping for one. The guitar player,
Jason Moscartolo, is endorsed by Ibanez Guitars, and the drummer, Dave
DiCenso, is endorsed by Zildjian Cymbals, TAMA drums, and Vater Drumsticks.

I'm willing to go out on a limb and say that the level of musicianship
in Mystery Jones is almost unparalleled in any rock music I've ever
heard.

Mystery Jones has a six-song, professionally produced demo tape
available. (The producer was Alex Perialas of Pyramid Sound in
Ithaca, NY. Alex previously produced and engineered albums by
Anthrax, Testament, and Strip Mind). The tape is available by
contacting the bass player (and sending him $7ppd). He can be reached
at:

        Mystery Jones
        c/o Jeff Gilman
        53 Donnybrook Road
        Brighton, MA 02135

If you want to find out more about:
	The band itself
	The demo tape
	Upcoming shows
The Mystery Jones email mailing list

or if you want to:
Read reviews of the band from several trade publications
Hear some of the music before ordering a tape

then check out the Mystery Jones Web Page at:

	http://sound.media.mit.edu/~kdm/mystery

There is over 15 minutes of digitized music available via the WWW and
by ftp from sound.media.mit.edu in the pub/Sounds/mystery directory
(sound files are 8kHz mu-law mono AU and 11kHz mono AIFF). Only two
of the samples are actually from the demo tape, so you might want to
check out the samples regardless of whether you order the tape.

If you'd like to join the Mystery Jones mailing list to get the latest
info on upcoming shows, send email to:

	mystery-jones-request@media.mit.edu

Hope you like them as much as I do! If you do, spread the word!
