I remember the first time that I went to a Mosh Pit... I had a BLAST!!!

No one was there to KILL anyone...I was sore, but I wasen't DEAD.

I went to one recently though and there were people jumping on top

of people, I had never seen so many unconciouse(sp) and bloody
    people in my life!~!!

I wouldn't go moshing now if someone paid me.

                                                             jazzzzzzz
620.2VCSESU::MOSHER::COOKStanding on top...Thu Nov 14 1991 14:507

It was great back around 1985 before slamming got introduced to
metal. As soon as that happened, it was all down hill.

I'd rather be in a pit with skinheads than be in a pit these days.

It's too bad, I really miss it.
620.3MRVAX::CESCOBARYou Silence Just To Hear YourselfThu Nov 14 1991 15:217

I truthfully believe the band that's playing decides how bad the pits
are... I enjoy a few...good way to let out aggeression, with out making
mortal enemies... skinheads like to take things personally, pete. I
always get my a__ kicked by about ten for makin' fun of their mamas 8^)

Da only pits I ever been in were in L.A. I always had a blast, but then
again I've always liked agressive stuff.
620.5MRVAX::CESCOBARYou Silence Just To Hear YourselfThu Nov 14 1991 16:5510

Jesse, the agressor. L.A. is a cool place to mosh, espescially in the
    club scene.

What I'd like to see is the centrum leave the floor open with no seats
for a giant mosh pit with thousands of people. With Diving boards off
the balcony seats. What the hell, to make it more intresting they
should leave the Ice Skating Rink uncovered...

sounds like the orpheum for the anthrax show. the seats got torn up
:'). i used to love moshing (in fact thats what the license plate on
my car said), but i sort of got tired of the club scene, so moshing
died with it. i was just as violent as the pit made me need to be
then, but i really have no iea how they are now. sounds like things
are much worse now. then again, back in the old days my mosh 'partner'
was this guy glenn who was about 7' tall and weighed in at 250 or so.
    nobody bothered us :').

Mosh pits suck! I'll admit, I get a kick out of them (pardon the pun).
...that is as long as I'm a few hundred feet away! It's not so bad
until they start floating around on top and kicking their legs around!

    Then it's time to GTFO!

That's another interesting subject, Why are so few women involved in
mosh mania?? I always wondered why... could it be they are too
fragile 8) I have seen a few but they are, like BUILT. I tend to stay
away due to the fact that angry women can do a lot of damage to vital
    body parts.

So few women mosh because men think that it is fun to see their little
body's hurdling threw the air. Plus moshing is dumb....
         That's what I think...

You're exactly right! Men like to show off how much more physically
stronger they are then women. That's PHYSICALLY, not mentally...8)

    (literally).

I useta like to slam dance cuz it was fun. Even chicks did it and it
rarely got too outta hand. I mean as far as getting ultra violent.

moshin' may be dumb....but it's better to have fun while beatin' up an
enemy than shootin' him in the skull out in the streets. With a few
exceptions no one really cares what color you are in the pit...yer just
another piece of meat in the grinder. Buck, isn't it hard to mosh to
the partridge family's greatest hits??? :)

I missed the slam dance period cause I was such a youngin' maybe that's
why the pits now don't seem really different to me, although in the
past few years or so, even I have ut down the number of people I bash
    with my fists, and elbow.

It's good women stay outa the pit. I can't see my self utterly
destroying a woman. I'd feel guilty and get my young a__ kicked in.

No it ain't. When I saw the Clash there, the first 10 rows of seats were
taken out, so there could be a "dance" area down front! (The band insisted
on it, and wouldn't play unless the seats were removed.)

Mosh pits are a blast...as long as everyone is out there to have fun!
If the as*holes come in and start the B.S. thats when they get
dangerous! If you follow the pit rulz and have fun then nobody should
    get hurt.

620.25mosh pits are greatPOLAR::LYLEfuzzy-wuzzy wasn't fuzzy.... was he???Thu Mar 21 1996 00:3410

I've only experienced three mosh pits in my time. Two was at the
Headstones and the other was at a Stone Temple Pilots show during their
Core tour. All three times I had a blast. Ottawa is generally quite
tame and laid back (read: boring) but these nights the crowd was into
    it big time.
I have yet to get into a 'real' mosh pit with a band like Slayer
    playing. But I will.......

Yes actually, they're posted at the entrance to the pit, on the back of
the 400 pound security guard. Actually, you have to read, understand,
and pass a short verbal exam on the rules in order to get in!

620.28BSS::MANTHEIMy wife is jealous of MS.DOSThu Mar 21 1996 19:3310
THat 400 lb security guard is actually 4 ambulance attendants waiting
    for bodies to carry out.

Assuming nobody gets killed, they have an easy night. And since they
come in wearing one large jacket, they only pay for one, and get to
sell advertising rights to the jacket.
