800.0. "Jag Panzer" by KETJE::VLASIU () Fri Sep 20 1991 10:06

    This note is for the band Jag Panzer. Although they may not exist
    anymore (at least in the original form) they deserve a topic. I
    listened a CD released in 1984, "Ample destruction", and I enjoyed it
    very much. I listened it because of the lead singer, Harry Concklin
    "The tyrant" which is since 1989 lead singer in Titan Force.

    Excellent album this "Ample destruction". It was their second album and
    it is very well recorded and ahead of its time (1984). They are all
    good with Harry and Joey Tafolla (lead guitars) being the great talents
    of the band. Impressive vocals (same range as Geof Tate but different
    voice) and great guitar solos. You can hear also here and there some
    fine keyboard interventions. Great choruses also in few songs.

    Jag Panzer plays progressive power metal and some of its influence
    appears in Titan Force also (without considering the particular voice
    stamp common to both bands). It's less sophisticate than TF but a bit
    heavier. JP released only two albums (in 1983 and 1984).

    On AD there are 13 songs for a total of 52 mins. Almost all are very
    fine with the best being Black Sunday (a bit like early Uriah Heep) and
    The Crucifix (a longer and more complex composition).
    Well recommended (I found it only in a public library).

800.1Gotta dig out Ample DestructionCSC32::J_HERNANDEZOh Yea, Like I'd do that.Fri Sep 20 1991 13:334
    It's kinda funny that there wasn't a topic on these guys, I seem to
    remember some discussion on them. Mebbe it was when we was talking
    about DJ's night club.I seen Jag Panzer there umteen times. We almost
    got them to play at our high school.

    Re. Jess

    I listened them after reading your remarks on them in a previous topic.
    You was right, they were very good.

800.3Good bandGOES11::G_HOUSEHas anybody seen the bridge?Mon Sep 23 1991 17:3213
    I only saw them one time, after Joey Taffoya left. I remember that
    someone from Island Records was supposed to be checkin them out the
    night I went and later turned 'em down saying they didn't need any more
    metal bands.

    I thought they were a good band and would have liked to have seen them
    make something of themselves.

    BTW, I think there was some Panzer discussion in the Titan Force note,
    and possibly in the "What's Hot" note.

800.5Wendy ruined that club!!!!!!!!COMET::FRISBYAHello ..From The GUTTER!Tue Sep 24 1991 11:5612
     I saw them at DJ's nightclub opening for Armored Saint behind the
    chickenwire since I was 15 at the time.
           They really had a deal going at one time but turned it down
    because it wasn't good enough.....
    Some of the members are just hangin' out in town doing pretty much
    nothin'...I saw them at the Zimbrick show.

                  I don't think I'd ever buy anything from them considering
    I grew out of that phase but they were still a good band.

    Re. Frizkid

    Maybe they were too ambitious. In any case Harry "The tyrant" and Joey
    Tafolla managed to continue their careers.

        Yea.....

              I talk to Harry's ex alot because she works in this plant.
        It seems Harry "The TYRANT" is really a tyrant.
    She had his kid and now he wants nothing to do with it.

    Eeeeh,i remember Jag Panzer. They were considered one of the best
    thrash bands (or power bands or what not) back in 1984. Got rave
    reviews in Metal Forces,and you can tell the Tyrant etc they had a
    very big underground following here in England and Europe back then.
    Great stuff at the time.
