586.0. "Last Crack" by KETJE::VLASIU () Thu Jun 06 1991 11:19

Has anyone heard the band "Last Crack" ? They are from US and released
    two albums (both well received):

    Sinister funk house #1
    Burning time (just released)

The critics about BT were very fine telling that they combine the
energy of Judas Priest with the creativness of Queensryche. The singer,
Budo (??), seems to be very fine.

I caught one of their songs on Raw Power a few days ago,not an average
rock band very different. The song was "ok" and the video was very
"hippish"to say the least.Does this make sense??

    Re. Staynz

Your remark corresponds with what I've heard about them, a quite
different rock band. If I have the occasion I'll check the CD.

Last Crack have been around for at least three years. They received
quite a good review for their first album in all the HM magazines...I
never picked it up though. If you get the albums, Sorin, I'll be
    interested in how they sound.

586.5Burning Time reviewKETJE::VLASIUTue Jul 23 1991 08:0852
And here is the review of "Burning Time".

First of all Last Crack is composed by:

Buddo - vocals
Paul Schluter	- guitars
Don Bakken	- guitars
Todd Winger	- bass
Phil Buerstatte	- drums

They seem to be from California, and ...

They are excellent and one of the most original bands presently !

Buddo is for much in the personality of the band because of his excellent voice,
very close to U2's Peter Bono's. Buddo has the same impact as Glen Danzig
(different voice) or Door's Jim Morrison.
It's difficult to compare Last Crack to other bands as they are very original.
In any case it's progressive metal at its best. The best to compare is to
imagine a mixture of Rush (Moving Pictures time), U2 (heavier side),
King's X (sometimes), Jane's Addiction (a little bit) and Doors.
The album contains 13 songs whith rhythm changes going from very accoustical to
high energy. An album to listen entirely for getting the maximum satisfaction.
It's also better and better after each listening.
I highly recommend it to anyone which wants to listen some different but
excellent heavy music !

The songs:

1. Wicked sandbox
2. Mini tobbogan
3. Energy mind
4. My burning time
5. Precious human stress
6. Love, Craig
7. Kiss a the cold
8. Love or surrender
9. Mack Bolasses
10. Blue fly, fish sky
11. Papa Mugaya
12. Down beat dirt Messiah
13. Oooh.

The recording is also fine (they use also little sounds like bells here and
there).

I think this will be one of the new great bands (although they are not the most
accessible to a wide audience).

Enjoy !

586.6good stuff!QRYCHE::STARRSpontaneity has its time and place.Tue Aug 20 1991 14:0313
I also picked this up and gave it a listen yesterday. Sorin's remarks are
pretty much right on the money - a hard band to classify! The two bands
that they sort of reminded of were King's X and U2, although at times they
play harder than either of those bands.

Musically intelligent, a pretty nice production (if a little sparse - sounds
like some of it might have almost been recorded live), and a good band sound
overall.

I have to listen to the whole thing, only got about halfway through it, but
it sounds like a new band that has a lot of promise!

    Re. Alan

The album sounds particularly fine on headphones also. When listened
from one end to the other it shows all the variety. All of the songs
are quite different (but also fine). A very original band. They also
have a quite dynamic sound going from silent moments to energetic
attacks (Cold a the kiss (?)).
    Better after new listening.

586.8Sinister Funkhouse #17KETJE::VLASIUMon Jan 04 1993 09:4014
Hi and a Happy New Year !

While on holiday, I bought Last Crack's first album "Sinister
Funckhouse #17". I enjoyed very much their latest "Burning Time", so I
    tried the previous also.

Very nice surprise ! It is an excellent album announcing a great band
(and confirmed later by the BT album). SF#17 is a bit heavier than BT
but all the band's qualities and particular style are already there. A
    strong first album.

    Well recommended !
