533.0. "Wrathchild America" by LANDO::DEMARCO (The song remains the same...) Mon Mar 25 1991 12:54

This note is for the band "Wrathchild"

I was half asleep very late last Saturday night when I saw this great band
called "Wrathchild" on MTV's Head Banger's Ball (like during the last
    10 minutes of the show).

They did a tune called "Surrounded By Idiots" that reminded me alot of
Scatterbrain except heavier and faster. The band plays really well and
    quite literally "woke me up"!

Has anyone heard of these guys?

Does anyone know what their album is called?

533.3The previous was 'Climbin' the walls'KETJE::VLASIUMon Mar 25 1991 14:069
I don't remember the name of the new album (but I've seen it). I have listened
in December their previous album titled "Climbin' the walls" and I liked it.
Very well played, good voice and an outstanding cover of Pink Floyd's "Time" (or
"Money" ?? in any case something from "Dark side..").
In Europe the band is named Wrathchild America because of the glam UK band
Wrathchild. I was also curious to listen the new album.
In any case a good band which started with a good album.

There are also at least two Wrathchild's from the US. One is from
Texas, and I believe the other is from New York. Then again this was
several years ago when Celebrations was the happening club. I saw them
    both there...

    FXC({
I think the one from Texas was the better of the two. They are opening
up Wrathchild franchises in the UK now also, eh?

The band I saw on HBB was heavy and thrashy, and the lyrics were clever
and comical, e.g. "Surrounded By Idiots". These guys were hot
instumentally too and really played well. And from their looks,
    definitely not a glam band!

I don't think the video had a header or trailer either; if the VJ hadn't
announced the the video I never would have known who it was!

Sorin, let me know if you find out the name of their new album.

Stevie, the title of the new album is "3-D" and was released by
Atlantic. I heard too little of it to give an objective view (but it
didn't seem bad in any case). The cover of Pink Floyd on their previous
album was "Time". They are certainly into speed (and even thrash) metal
if I consider their previous "Climbin'..".

The CD contains 12 songs (3 to more than 6 mins each) and some titles
    indicate humor.

I have the same problem as you Stevie .. my wife stands between me and
my (new) CDs. She finds I'm a bit CDholic (well, it's not completely
    false but ..). :-)

I listened quickly this weekend "3D" and I can say it's a fine album. Very
difficult to position, like their previous also, it's some kind of speed metal
combined with funkier songs and quite much imagination. It recalls somewhat
Scatterbrain but it's an original approach. A long album (58 mins.) but not at
all boring. 12 fine songs which show much variation. "Surrounded by idiots" has
to be one of the bests, and there is no weak song on the album. There are also
some slower songs (very good).
Well recommended.

I've had "Climbin' the Walls" for awhile now, and love it, so
I figured I'd pick up "3-D", and I did. But after the first
listen, I think they should have stopped after "Climbin' the
    	Walls". YAWN.

There are only 2 songs on the album I can say I like, and they
are "Prego", a 3-minute instrumental, and the last song, "I
    	Ain't Drunk, I'm Just Drinkin'", a country-bluesy song.
