103.0. "Forbidden" by KETJE::VLASIU () Wed Sep 05 1990 10:09

    This topic is for the band named Forbidden.
    I only listened their new "Twisted into form" CD and it is very good.
    The band may be positioned somewhere in a triangle constituted by
    Wargasm, Anthrax and Metallica (or Testament). Very tight rythm with
    fine guitar breaks and an excellent singer which recalls Bruce
    Dickinson (and Anthrax's Belladona) sometimes. They play clean, heavy
    and fast. The members of the band are:

    Craig Locicero - guitars
    Russ Anderson - vocals
    Paul Bostaph - drums
    Tim Calvert - guitars
    Matt Camacho - bass

    The new "Twisted into form" CD contains 9 songs including short
    accoustic instrumental intro and all the songs are fine. The album
    starts a la Testament but quickly goes more complex and punchier
    (heavier also). Difficult to pick up the best song (on occasion just
    listen the title track or "One foot in Hell").
    Conclusion: well recommended !

103.2Really excellentKETJE::VLASIUTue Sep 11 1990 13:315
    After more listening it's even better. Definetly one of this year's best
    speed metal albums and the singer is also one of the best actually in
    this category.

103.3Forbidden evilKETJE::VLASIUThu Jan 03 1991 08:516
I got also Forbidden's first album "Forbidden evil". It is also excellent and
faster (and more thrashy) generally than "Twisted into form". "Twisted.."
remains their best for me, because of the stronger compositions, but "Forbidden
evil" is also well recommended.

103.4This band deserves far more recognitionKETJE::VLASIUFri Feb 15 1991 07:5014
    Still no one to have listened "Twisted into form" ? I am surprised, as
    there are so many Metallica, Annihilator, Testament.. fans here.
    Come on, this is a real gem of very intelligent speed metal combining
    sophistication and intensity. And all the members of the band are first
    class musicians. Just listen to the incredible bass playing and the
    tightness of the rhythm. The singer and the lead guitar follow a melody
    while the bass/drums/second guitar are filling the song with their own
    variations in a perfect synchronisation. Forbidden stays really in a
    class apart. And as with every good album, the more you listen the more
    you want. I repeat also that the singer is one of the best and most
    powerful in speed metal today.
    So, don't miss them.

103.6Metallica have slowed downKETJE::VLASIUFri Feb 15 1991 12:196
    The actual Forbidden is tougher than the actual Metallica (for me
    Metalica's best remains RTL). Death Angel's and Slayer's last albums
    are closer to Forbidden's music (also Annihilator's albums).
    But it's as always true that each one's taste is determinant.

	Great Band!

	I've seen these guys several times and will again on Jan. 10
	at the Cactus Club in San Jose. (Great place!)

	Tim Calvert hurt his leg before the last show and it just wasn't
	the same with him sitting down - everything seemed, I don't
	know, just slower...and besides he can't do the "hair thing"
	sitting down.

	(fyi - they all have incredibly long hair and they'll all
	just start spinning their heads/hair...it's sorta the
	mosher's signal to Pit Now! and my signal to Get Outta The Way!)

	I'm not a speed metal fan. I like these guys a lot better
	live then I liked the album. JMHO.

    These guys have just finished a three song demo with hopes of getting
    signed again.

It's sad. They are one of the very very (yes two times) best (progressive)
thrash bands. I wish they find the right record label.

    Aye,they are a good band. Can`t see why they didn`t really take off.

Maybe they play thrash which is less immediate (but far more rewarding after
repeated listening).

103.13Forbidden alive and a new albumTPLAB::VLASIUSorin Vlasiu - Brussels, BelgiumTue Nov 08 1994 10:087
It appears Forbidden is alive and they just released a new album ('Distorted'
or someting like that). The band is the same with exception of the drummer
(gone to Slayer). The review was fine. Aparently they continue in the
progressive metal direction. The album contains also a fine 11 min cover of
King Crimson's '21st century schizoid man'. I'll surely check for this CD.

    Sorin,

    Just got this yesterday at Newbury Comics up in shrewsbury (only saw
    one copy too!). Not bad, better than I expected, but I have to give it
    some more spin time. New drummer is Steve Jacobs. Pretty heavy, not as
    thrashy as I was expecting, but still decent!

Re. Mike

Then, you'll surely enjoy "Twisted into form", which is more thrashy and maybe
heavier.

    forbidden's drummer "don't know his name" is the new drummer for
    Slayer!
    although I don't think anyone could replace Dave Lombardo
