395.0. "Titan Force" by KETJE::VLASIU () Fri Apr 06 1990 13:20

Another good american band from Colorado, it's called:
        	Titan Force
They have a good vocalist (Geoff Tate style) and play a mellower heavy
but interesting after repeated listening. The instrumentals play quite
repetitive themes letting the vocalist to sing his stories. Similarly
to Fates Warning you have to listen them twice before likeing them.
I'll add more information, but I can already say that they exist since
a while, they are 5 (3 brothers Flores, a singer ex-Jag Panzer..) and
the CD I have was released in 1989 with the name "Titan Force".
It's a good album but not for all tastes. I like it but I'm more
impressed by Oliver Magnum and lately also by Hitt Man.

Saw these guys when they opened for Bad English here in Springs...
    Yawn! Where's the originality???

re: .-1

I heard they didn't sound that great at that show. I've never seen them.
Hydra had a chance at that show (opening for Bad English). Too bad they
didn't get it. Seemed to me that they would have "fit" in that slot a
little better from a musical standpoint.

I don't know what that guy sounds like now, but when he was in Jag Panzer
he sounded great! Kind of like a mix of Geoff Tate and Rob Halford.

Rob and Geoff? Naw, IMO dude couldn't *sing*, just screamed. Matter
of taste, I guess. He could hit those highs but didn't show his range
at all; thus to me was mono-tone-ous. If I remember correctly, he sang
thru his nasal passage a lot, IMO, it doesn't fit their style of music
very well. Not only that, when he said "Titan Force", it came out
    "Ti'n Fo-ce". Know what I mean?

*Looked* like the bass player was putting down some good riff, but
couldn't hear him over the cranked Marshalls. Fire that sound man!
One instrumental that they did sounded cool, tho(better w/o the
annoying vocals). I hope this doesn't sound too negative, I don't mean
to be, let's just say that I was not very impressed. Guitar players
    were good, tho...

I agree.....Titan Force isn't much of anything. They might
look good, but I'm not much impressed by their music and they
don't have much in the way of originality.

For a Colorado Springs band, they're decent. Hydra's got my
vote over them anyday, though.....I like to be able to hear
what a person is singing instead of having someone scream at
	 me.

395.5The album is very good but not for all tastesKETJE::VLASIUMon Apr 09 1990 07:3735
I listened again this weekend the album and I think it is really very good,
especially if you like Rush or Fates Warning. I do know the band only from this
album and I'm well impressed.
The singer is really excellent on the album (the comparison with Tate or Halford
beeing very realistic). It is the kind of band which does not kick but makes
interesting music. My remark in the begining about the repetitive riffs has to
be completed: if you listen carefully the music is not at all simple but
smoothly variated to create a special atmosphere. The solos are very fine and
well put, the singer drives all and the album goes increasing in rythm and
intensity from begining to the end.
I agree that they were deceiving in concert but me too I was very disapointed
by an Iron Maiden/WASP concert (Iron Maiden is one of my favourite bands). So
a live is important but not definitive to qualify a band, especially when they
are in the begining and lack experience and hardware.
In conclusion I'll state that the album "Titan Force" is a very good one (but
needs 2-3 listenings before enjoying completely). It is also an album to be
listened entirely.

Now few more details about the members:
Harry "The Tyrant" (vocals), Mario Flores (guitars), Bill Richardson (guitars),
John Flores (bass), Stefan Flores (drums).

And the album song titles:
1. Chase your dreams
2. Master of disguise
3. Lord desire
4. Toll of pain
5. Will'o wisp
6. Blaze of glory
7. Wings of rage
8. New age rebels
9. Fool on the run
Except one instrumental all the songs are 5-6 mins. No weakness.

395.7I haven't seen Titan ForceCOOKIE::G_HOUSEGreg House - DTN 523-2722Mon Apr 09 1990 19:467
I didn't see Titan Force, but I saw that singer and some of the other band
members when they were Jag Panzer (at City Lites).

I think J. saw then when they opened for Bad English at City Aud. a few
months back.

Yeh but by then Joey was out of the band wasn't he?
395.9KETJE::VLASIUThu Apr 12 1990 08:469
The new singer (from Jag Panzer) joined the band only since the last
album in 1989. I've listened the album with headphones last time and
this way it is even better because you can beter pay attention to vocal
    and instrumental details.
But to conclude, from my last CDs I found as really best of best for a
wide range audience Oliver Magnum's and Hitt Man's albums. Those two
    are hot and heavy.

395.11good experienceKETJE::VLASIUThu Apr 26 1990 08:166
Last night, after listening twice the CD I was wandering how they can
have such instrumental/production/musical skills as I didn't know
exactly their origin in time. I checked my heavy metal articles and
discovered they exist since 1982. This explains their experience.

Just thought that I'd mention that I met John, Titan Forces bass
player, last night at a music store. He was very friendly and
    pleasant.

He told me that they are in the studio right now recording their second
album, which they hope to have out mid-winter. He said that they've on
a new label now and are hoping for a wider distribution. Apparently
the last label only distributed to certain sections of Europe.

BTW I told him that you were a big fan, Sorin, and he told me to tell
    you Thanks for the support!

Thank you Greg, I'm happy to hear this! I wait for the new album and I
continue to listen regularly the actual one which I consider one of the
best in my collection. Fine musicians !

395.14Winner / LoserKETJE::VLASIUTue Aug 20 1991 13:2715
I've got "Winner / Loser" and listened it few times. It's a good album
but less impressing than their first one. I think they definetly don't
search any commercial success with this album and they stick to their
initial style (so if you don't like the first album ..).
There are 8 songs of which 4 are excellent 2 are good and 2 are just
OK. On the first album, all 9 songs were excellent.
As usual the album needs few listenings before completely enjoying it.
Good to listen for a change. Recommended to those who like Titan Force.
I've seen in Metal Hammer that Titan Force was considered as a
an equivalent of Queensryche on the power metal scene after releasing
their first album (equivalent in intelligence of song writing and
vocals not as a clone). That album remains one of the best of my
    collection.

395.15KDX200::COOPERYou're Aunty ...Aunty social!Mon Nov 20 1995 16:1911
Funny how things change... I bumped into John at a party the other
night where his new band was playing (yep, thats what I said). He
remembered me from Hardball and wanted me to jam with them and do
"Tush". Hmm - friends don't let friends do ZZ Top Covers...

He kept talking about his old band "Titan Force" and I'm thinking, I've
heard of them from SOME place...

As Greg said, was a real nice guy... oh, and the singer-dood and from
Jag Panzer showed up there as well. Seems that both bands are quite
defunct, but still pretty 'legendary' at this party. :-)
