336.0. "Thunder" by JANUS::BHARRISON (Cheap an' Nasty) Mon Mar 19 1990 13:09

This note is to introduce the 'new' British band THUNDER.

I went to see them last week when they supported the Little Angles and FM (Two
other excellent British Rock Bands). They were excellent, so good in fact I went
out and bought the Album : Back Street Symphony.

Thunder rose from the ashes of the band Terraplane, with 3 (I think) members,
plus two more for the new band.

Their music has been likened to Bad Company, but I like to think it is more a
cross between Dio and The Monkees ;-)

The Album has at least two classics on it, namely Dirty Love, a real stompin
rockin opus, and She's so fine. The rest of the album has some very high quality
work on it too, so look out for it when it crosses the pond.

Brynn (whose going to see them again on the 29th).

IMHO - one of the best new UK rock bands to hit the scene in
    years !!

Luke Morley's power riffin' has more than a nod to Mick Ralph's (Bad
Company) distinctive style and Dan Bowes vocals are as refreshingly
gut-wrenching (ie Mega) as you'll ever here in todays music world.

This album just never lets up and in the 2 weeks I've owned it -
it has been played inside out / back to front..in fact every f^&*in' way
and it just gets better and better...

Simply immense..I urge you guys an' gals Stateside or otherwise
to lend an ear at the earliest opportunity.

I got the album a while back but didn't listen to it, but I gave
it a whirl a couple weeks back and I love it.

Oh No - It's the "pick on Tugboat Annie" topiI would like to have
seen Thunder upstage the headliners. A lot of times bands get pulled
from opening up for being too good or get subject to the "modified"
    sound mix (that'll fix em).

I think that was one of the new songs they played on saturday but due
to the fact they were boring,I left.It sounded exactly like the same
as the older(and now boring)stuff.I liked them when they started but
now old hat and they need a new album out soon, very soon.

I think it is REAL interesting that almost all the people
that love Thunder are from England....

Maybe it is a bit of an 'english' taste..

I found the tape 'ok' but not a classic, and not great.

Yep it does seem that Thunder is a British taste....but I think BSS is
one of the Best HM albums ever...there isnt one bad track on it, and
    they are superb live.

I bought BSS and thought it was ok.Its about time they released a new
album, unfortunately the single Low life etc is just the same sound as
the previous albums songs and not a musical step forward.I'll borrow
the new album,if I can be bothered and listen to it(maybe)

Haven't been in here for a while, I think Thunder are a very English
taste, but even so Back Street Symphony is one of the best albums a
British HM band has put out for years. The new single is brilliant as
is the rest of the album judging by previews and stuff.

They're gonna go down a storm at Donny this year, then there's a UK
    tour starting in October....

Thunder, as I recall, was Andy Taylor's band after he got butch and

Er...can't make up my mind about this album, depends what mood I'm in.
If you want musical progression from their last albums then forget it,
but I suppose it's OK. Noticed tons of guitar bits/intros/riffs lifted
    straight from their older stuff...
