327.0. "Gamma Ray" by CASEE::LALLI (Didier - BCE Valbonne - DTN 828.5423) Thu Mar 08 1990 07:33

This is Kai Hansen (ex Helloween) new band.

The first album is called "Heading for Tomorrow". It contains a pretty good
song (I've heard on radio) that lasts 15mn (good/long guitar work in the middle).
I think that this song is also called "Heading for Tomorrow".

The singing is done by Kai himself (I think) coz it sounds a bit like the
old-Helloween voice (he was singing at this time, wasn't he?).

No I'm not. I mentioned "old-helloween", and I that was "Walls of Jericho". I
checked and Kai is indeed doing the voice and one of the guitar.

Michael Kiske wasn't even in the band at this time.

Beside this I've heard another tune from Gamma Ray, which was strange, but very
good. It sounded a bit like an opera !! I forgot the title.

I just remembered the title of it: it's "The Silence"

It has some part in the middle that sounds like Queen. Heavier.

And I don't know who is in the band.

327.5Covering Uriah HeepCASEE::LALLIDidier - BCE Valbonne - DTN 828.5423Tue Mar 27 1990 13:076
I've heard another track of Gamma Ray and it's a cover of "Look at yourself"
from Uriah Heep.

I don't know the original, but this one is pretty good.

Didier
327.6The original is also very very goodKETJE::VLASIUTue Mar 27 1990 13:315
    "Look at yourself" is originally the title track of the LP released in
    1970 (Heep's heaviest). I'm really curious to hear the cover. If I
    imagine well your taste Didier, you should like Heep music.

Re : Sorin

It's done.

I've heard on the radio, Uriah Heep's version just followed by Gamma Ray's
version and I've got to agree, both versions a very good. I guess
"look at yourself" is just a good song. I like a lot the old 70s sound of
the original.

I'm sure Sorin, you would like the cover as it's close to the original. It's
just missing the wild ending of the original version.

327.8I'll check for Gamma RayKETJE::VLASIUFri Apr 06 1990 13:0710

    I'll check for the Gamma Ray album as I like Helloween's works with Kai
    Hansen. I've seen the CD but not in my favourite shop (where I can
    listen it a little). All the "Look at yourself" album is the same very
    good style. The final drumming on the original version is made by 3 !!
    drummers from Osibissa plus the Heep drummer..
    Do they use also keyboards in Gamma Ray ?

Ok that's why :-)

Yes, but but not as much as in the original. Neither the same sound of keyboard

If the new album is at least as good as HfT, Gamma Ray will have the advantage
over Helloween (which released aparently a so-so album).
It's interesting that Gamma Ray's singer is the one which Kai Hansen wanted in
Helloween when he started the band. Now they're both in Gamma Ray.
