355.0. "XYZ" by DASXPS::GRENIER () Fri Jan 05 1990 22:49

I didn't see a topic on XYZ, so I'll start one up.

XYZ is a new band whose album was produced by Don Dokken. In fact
some of the songs are ones that I would expect to here on a Dokken
album. The singer even has Don's style of singing. The guitarist,
though no Vai or Satriani, is better than average. The album on
a whole is pretty strong. A couple of ballads, and rockers for
pretty much the rest of the album. I think (IMHO) that this album
is better than other metal bands have put out lately.

I listened to them ....not bad..but not great either...probably
one of those "grow on ya" types of albums...

355.2Keep listening to itDASXPS::GRENIERFri Jan 05 1990 23:429
Yeah, on the first listen it seemed pretty good, but nothing fantastic.
But the more you listen to it, the more you like it. It was the
same with O:MC for me. Not that XYZ even comes close to O:MC.

Did you listen to the whole thing, or just the single Inside Out?

    	Pretty much the whole album....

It would be absurd to judge a band based on a single....(:

I listened to almost all of it and all I could say was..it was
a bit better than average....but it may be a "grower"

The show isn't until tonight, you silly!

Not sure now if I'm gonna go now - the girl who has the tix and invited me
doesn't want to go now that she found out its an 18+ show. Oh well......

Any more discussion on XYZ ??? I've had the cd for a while, and I
gotta agree with the folks who think it's one of the better new
band release's, although now it's not that new anymore. The
vocalist, can't think of his name..uhh, is really good especially
on the song 'Souveniers'. It's kinda mello but killer vocals.
I also like the song 'Follow the Night' and 'Inside Out'.
The whole cd is pretty jammin'
                                          later,

    Jess,
Led is a nickname we used to kick around back in H.S..
It is derived, of course, from Led Zep.
                                         That's WTF it is,

I caught XYZ live last night opening up for Foreigner at the Landmark
Theatre in Syracuse, NY. I think I'll check into the CD because I was
fairly impressed with them. Being a younger band they presented quite a
contrast to Foreigner (no nit on Foreigner intended, they were great),
and the crowd really got into it. I was fairly impressed with the
guitar player, he had a killer sound and decent chops. The rest of the
band seemed tight and the lead singer had one of those voices that
could scream without grating on you.
Maybe they are somewhat poppish, not too much though. The Dokkenisms
are there. Reminded me a little bit of Trixter as well.

I like XYZ...what was the guitarist using for amps?!? He used those

More like radio in this *SUCKIN* town is HURTIN 'cause they can't even
tell you about local concerts. They seemt to think putting on an
outdated recording that you can call that only has about half the shows
is good enough. I've missed several shows over the last year or so
just 'cause I didn't know they were happening!
