655.0. "Disneyland After Dark [D.A.D./DAD]" by ROSBIF::PHILIPPA (Captain CAVEMAN!!!) Thu Sep 07 1989 13:02

Has anyone heard of the band called Disneyland After Dark. People
in the US may have heard of them as D.A.D. because Disney have
had a serious sense of humour failure and have threatened to sue
them if they use their name.

I heard their song on some station a few weeks ago and thought
it was alright (that I can remember anyway!) ...but that was
the one and only time I heard them.

What's their reputation like in the U.K??

As far as I know DAD haven't got a reputation in the UK.

They have just signed to a major label, and are still at the stage
of being hyped by Kerrapp!. I think they've played a gig or two
    at the Marquee.

That's about all I know about them, apart from the fact that the
bassist has had a two-string bass made, because that's all he uses.

They formed on March 3, 1984, originally as a send up of Heavy Metal
bands.......wall-to-wall marshalls, that are cardboard cut-outs,
guitarist made to sit by the drum kit and only allowd to stand up
when he does his solo's, fireworks attached to their hats.

They have a debut abum out at the moment, No fuel for the Pilgrims,
which is gaining fantastic write ups. Tracks include:

    Rim of Hell
    True Believer
    Sleeping my day away
    Point of view
Lords of the Atlas (which was written whilst they were experiencing
    			  their first trip off acid!)

I'll check it out and tell you what I think of it!

They are supposed to sound alot like ACDC and The Cult.

Listened to a DAD track on the Kerrapp! freebie give-away record
last night. Sounded a lot like Zodiac Mindwarp to me... I wasn't
particularly impressed, it's all been done too many times before.
If they could find something to make them stand out from the crowd,
though, they might just have potential.

They sound alot like the Dogs D'amour....it's kinda straight forward
sleazy, rock'n'roll.....not the 'Oh Baby' crap, but more like early
Hanoi Rocks (Oriental Beat)....it's very mellow, kinda nighttime
music or about all you can handle when you've had too much to drink!

It's nothing special, they'll probably take over from where Hanoi
Rocks left (they are also Scandinavian - you can certainly hear
the accents!), I expect it will grow on me....

I heard a song from their album on BCN's HM show this past weekend - it was
pretty good! I don't remember the song title - actually I don't remember the
song that much - I just remember that I liked it a lot.

I'll have to listen more carefully next time.....

Got the Album Last week sounds pretty good, the guitar work on some
songs remind me of a Mixture of the Cure and Possible Dokken, defin.
    an up beat rock band.

1st song on side 1 is the tune you all probably got
Intro'ed to by MTV they got a video out
