622.0. "Loudness" by MARKER::BUCKLEY (just turn back a page...) Fri Aug 04 1989 13:49

Well, I was sure there'd be a topic on Loudness, but after a few
    dir/tit= ...nothing showed up, so....

Well, latest dirt is Minaru Niihara is now the EX-lead singer for
Loudness!! That's right kiddies...Minaru has left the band to pursue a
solo career, and is now heading into some LA studios to start work on a
forthcoming release with ex-members of Journey (ala Steve Smith) and a
few other noteworth musicians. Loudness, on the other hand, have
recruted a new AMERICAN lead singer to the band, and will kick off a
    North American tour very soon.

How bout someone posting an American discography? Like AC/DC, they
have a whole bunch of stuff released in Japan which hasn't made it to
the USA, except by imports. The only albums I know the names of are
the ones I have, which are _Thunder in the East_ (2nd lp?) and
    _Hurricane Eyes_ (4th lp??).

    "Possible" Loudness discography ...

#1 - Thunder In The East (or Thunder FROM The East ...)
    #2 - Lightning Strikes
    #3 - Hurricane Eyes

#1 was great .... #2 was fair .... #3 was fair. Seems like a lot
of bands release a great 1st album, and then sink like a rock.

I had a friend who met the lead singer at this place in Cambridge
(can't remember the name of it, but it is a place where alot of
bands store thier stuff). They were hanging out out front one night
and he kept on saying F*CK YOU to everyone and they had to explain
(or at least tried) what it really ment, 'cause his english was
    so bad.

There's also one other album by Loudness that I know of, but
it's an import. It's called "The law of devil's land". Not bad at
all, even though it's all in japanese. BTW, any opinions on how
Giuffria sounded with them? I didn't like that album too much, to
me it sounded too mellowed out.

New album just came out, "Soldier of fortune" not too bad.
They've (apostrophe?) got a new lead singer, Mike Vescera. Uh,
no offense, but in this album they have a bit of the poseur look
to them! Still the excellent git sound they had in the first
album, and egads! A couple of ballads? Nooooooo! Not another
group gone to the ballads pool! Aaigh!

They gave 2 concerts over the weekend here in Singapore!! And judging by my
HM crazed friends reaction who attended one of the nights, LOUDNESS is
certainly fantastic!! The set was slightly more than 90 mins. This is the
first time that we in Singapore have the chance to see a foreign HM act and
LOUDNESS is the first foreigners to break the ICE! And I have to miss it!!

Well, according to my friends, MIKE VESCERA (who's from Connecticut) has
added new dimension to the band. He's able to relate to the crowd better
than Niihara because he speaks ENGLISH fluently. The rest of the band did
great, especially Takasaki's guitar work, all so reminiscent of their
earlier albums. And they are a good live band and fun to watch!! Since I
missed the concert, I'm going to check out their new album and hear what I
have been missing! Any comments on the new LOUDNESS sound with Mike Vescera?

There are a few albums were released in Japan except above.
These albums has different style compared with #1,#2 and #3.
I think, these albums does not fit in with American feeling.

Over the summer, Loudness and Minaru Niihara spilt! Minaru has
a solo album coming out...guest studio musicians for the lp, and
a touring band for the tour (early Spring `90). Loudness recruited
an American singer (some dude from LA) and are going for more of
a mainstream sound/approach. Good luck mates!

New singer - American made. Akira Ta* (?) is an AWESOME player, not
very original though. If you listen to "Thunder From The East" you'll
hear VanHalen/Rhodes/Lee/Lynch all rolled into one. Personally, I
loved it. And old band of mine used to do "Heavy Chains" ... that was
my high point of the gig !

I have just picked up the latest album from Loudness, the lineup has
changed yet again and now features 2 Japanese and 2 Americans in the
    band.

The new album is called 'On The Prowl' and has a hard hitting sound
that I really like. Heavy influences are definitely Iron Maiden, Dio
and AC/DC. Given this mix, the album is by no means eclectic; the band
has a sound all of its own. The singer sounds like a mix between Bruce
(without the fake tough guy sound) and Dio (without the annoying
whine), his isn't a great voice, but I firmly believe that singers
often get better as they get older. The guitar work is excellent and
ranges from fast and frenetic to fast and controlled (no ballads on
this one). Best tracks for me are 'Never Again' 'Deadly Player' 'In
the Mirror' and 'Sleepless Night'. The only dissapointment is the Bass
guitarist who might as well not be there for all his influence.

    Tracks are: Down 'n' dirty

                  Love toys
    		  Never again
